And I really wanted to like it.

Gondry, like many filmmakers who start off making music promos, is great when filming someone elses stuff (ESotSM) but absolutely shite when it comes to his own stuff (SoS was 'crazy' and 'wacky' in a way the Academie Francais no doubt loved), and this is more of the same IMO.
