Ouch... The problem with a large number of people getting new kit at the same time, they flood support lines if it doesn't go smoothly.

BTW Paulo, could you check something with your router if you don't mind ?

Can you telnet to it from an inside address please ?? If you don't understand what I mean, don't worry about it ;) if you do, let me know if you see a user prompt or not.

I'm having problems with mine, it seems to be severely lobotomised :( It does the basics nice and quickly, just trying to get the flash stuff working.

Does Vista have a Telnet client? If not, tell me where to download a lightweight one and I'll give it a try.

(Position #6... getting there... but I'm not expecting them to be able to sort it over the phone... guh...)

You need to install it separately. Its under Program and features, click the 'Turn Windows features on and off'. You'll see that the telnet client is off by default.

Have a peek (or not, Sunray has just posted the crux of it above) here, there is a telnet client along with other 'obsolete' utils but M$ hides them by default. What I'm trying to isolate is if me readdressing my inside network has borked something. I'm assuming your 585 is still at default settings.

You might be lucky. I do find the accent of the helpdesk bods a bit hard to handle, but then again I doubt I'd be pretty easy for them to understand either ;) However they seem to be more clued up on the customer service side of things than my last LLU ISP Bulldog <spit>

eg Be have returned calls for me within minutes of when they promised. Bulldog never managed that in 13 months ! (at all, never mind promptly !)

Well, I'm now all sorted! The static IP needed entering in the "set up" thingy... which I hadn't dare touch cos' the instructions made a point of not messing with things or it'll break!

So... onwards to Telnet....

Nice one. You pay the extra for a static or do you get one for free ?

I've found some knowedgeable bods over on the be forums. From what they say and reading between the line it appears the web interface for readdressing the inside LAN interface fails to tell the various st585 servers that the allowed address ranges have changed.

I should be able to piss around with adressing and being careful add the new address range before I reconfigure the router the way I want it. But the screwup means I have to readdress back to default first :(

Bollocks to this, I'll give it a twirl in the morning when I'm less likely to lock myself out :D
