Be Cuts Prices

My connection has been up and down like Zebedee every evening for the last week. Was OK last night though. Not sure if it's a problem with me bebox, or with the connection. Very annoying though.

Same happens to me. I find I constantly have to repair the connection to the Bebox or occasionally turn it off alltogether.

Speed-wise I rarely get above 4mbps.

I had that problem when I first got the box, then it cleared itself up. One thing I have found is that if you're using a laptop and shut down by lowering the lid it takes a minute or two to reestablish connection when you open up...

I average about 5.5mbps...and yeah, there were some wobbles yesterday...

Contacted them on the 19th
Ordered the 'Be unlimited' package for £18 on a 12 month contract
Ordered through www.quidco.com so received £24 cash back
Excellent service and updates sent by email and sms
Should be live tomorrow

10/10 so far
Have you got your bebox & welcome pack yet ?

My live date was yesterday, they texted me at 3am Saturday morning to say my router had shipped but they lied :( Apparently their fulfillment company is running a serious backlog at the moment (and has been for months:() so I have a misbehaving connection (11 Mbps Down/78 Kbps Up) and no router that Be will take support calls on

Not a great start :( At least you can get the buggers on the phone (unlike Bull$hit), it's just a shame that their accents are so strong you really have to concentrate to follow them. Now to see how good they are at actually getting things done.

Well I do have a laptop but it can just go down for no reason sometimes which is well annoying if you're trying to leave something seeding all day. I've set my laptop not to do anything if I cose the lid too so I doubt it's that.

Used to happen if someone else booted up their laptop while I was online (eg. my flatmate on his powerbook)

I think it's the Bebox as I never had probs on any other router.

Hmm, must be something odd going on with the wireless.
Have you tried running it on a different channel? (default is 11 I think)

Welcome pack is due today so possibly I am singing their praises too soon :(

Not too concerned if it does not arrive till tomorrow but would like to be reconnected soon

I've tried all the channels. Quite a few people on the Be forums (official and unofficial) are having the same problems.

That said, it's been OK for the past 24 hours. *touches wood*

Heh. Wood. Heh.

RIng 0808 234 8566, option 4 puts you through to the kit shipping people. Ignore what the web site says, these guys can check directly.

There were a few problems with the network yesterday I think. Flatmate said the thing wasn't working for him yesterday for a while. Tried resetting the box and nothing happened, so it was Be. You can have a look on their forum for problems, scheduled and unscheduled.

Hmm, so that suggests mine may ship tomorrow.

Ah well, time to find out for certain. I didn't have much luck getting a solid date the last two times I tried :(

Well the bebox situation appears to be a total fuckup. They said I should have one by next Wednesday, it appears they totally underestimated their signup rate (or used city link <spit> as their shippers ) and have been doing so for months.

But then again, my voice connection dropped dead Friday afternoon (about 6 hours after my stuttering ADSL finally bit the dust). I first spoke to BE, who assured me they'd completed their side of the commissioning work. I then faulted my voice line out to BT around 11pm, and by 11am this morning I have voice connectivity again and my ADSL is rocking along at
Code:
[B]DownStream[/B] Connection Speed 14433 kbps
[B]UpStream[/B] Connection Speed 1274 kbps
And best of all this is with my existing DG834PN, so it might even improve a tad whenever the bebox shows up and I can eyeball some decent line stats.

The Be techie that helped me out last night had to ring their provisioning team to see what whether my install had been completed or not, before I could ring BT. True to his word, he rang me back on my mobile from Bulgaria within a couple of minutes with the info I needed.

A welcome surprise indeed, I'm not used to residential ISPs returning calls when they said they will.

Told you.

I think that you have decent line stats, unless you have some dodgy extension wiring I wouldn't expect that the Speedtouch 780 is going to improve upon it.

There a very few sites that will max me out individually, the MSDN subscription download can, Steam from Valve does when I download.

Just had an update from them today so it sounds like tomorrow is the grand arrival of the new box. Mildly annoying that I had to wait four extras days but otherwise the level of customer service has been spot on and the first month bill free of charge is more than adequate (if the Be Box does arrive as promised) compensation when measured against competitors.

Dear Member to Be,

We are really sorry that there has been a delay in receiving your Be Box. If you have not received it already your Be Box will be with you by Tuesday 30th October at the latest. If you really need to get online we have a dial-up facility that can be used.(see below for details).

One months’ Free Service

To try and make up for the inconvenience caused we will credit one months’ free service to your next bill (Nov 07) plus a credit for period that you have not been online. Our way of saying “Sorry”.

About your Be Box

Following member feedback and alignment with our future strategy we are now supplying a different type of modem than the one advertised when you signed up. The new modem offers the same functionality as before but does not have the VOIP ports and all 4 ethernet ports are now available for your use.

We hope that this will not have effected your introduction to Be too much but we would like to offer you opportunity to cancel your order. If you wish to cancel either raise a ticket in the Member Centre www.bethere.co.uk/memberhome.do or reply to this email giving us your Member ID and confirmation that you wish to cancel your order.

:)

Be Box arrived this morning at 09:10 as promised yesterday.

Finally we are reconnected to the matrix :)

Oooh, It's all action round here too.

The link to my delivery details finally starting displaying info this morning. Apparently my bebox is en-route from Charlton. Seeing it's been that way since 4am, it looks like they've given it a kick up the arse and told it to find its own way to Wapping.

After a swift panic attack I realised the couriers were actually Parcelforce and not citylink, which was nice.

Badgers, when your bebox arrives would you mind posting up which speedtouch model you got. I'm hearing a mishmash of 585s (the new one) as well as the 780s are currently being shipped.

I got a 780 a month or so ago.

My connection is still virtually unusable roughly between 7pm - 9pm every evening. Disconnects every 5-10 minutes. No faster than 2.5Mbs. Have tried another router, but exactly the same thing happens. Waiting for a response from Be at the moment.

The connection is great the rest of the time. 6-7Mbs down, close to 1Mb up, steady as a rock. Most frustrating.

Yep, that's what plopped onto my doormat via Parcelforce this afternoon.

Up and installed on firmware 6.1.4.3, speeds are almost identical to what I was getting with my DG834PN.

One little oddity was that the firewall appeared to be disabled by default. It's not a major problem as NAT is still covering your ass to a degree, but a bit strange in these security concious days.

Classic Thompson look and feel to the UI, its like working with a BT home hub all over again <spit> At least this Thompson allows you to readdress your DHCP pools when you readdress your LAN, unlike the poxy HH.

Now to see if I can get the DMT tool working under wine, or see if there's anything native in linux I can use to get some baseline stats.

Odd, because there's no traffic shaping with Be. I've never had less than about 17MB downstream.

Box arrived, plugged up... but looks like I'm unlucky. PC Talks to Box. Box gets ADSL (i.e. sees a bitrate)... admin interface says all tests are OK.

Only one prob... box isn't being given an IP by be... permanently stuck on "contacting DHCP server".

Now in the tech support queue.

Position #28 :(

Ouch... The problem with a large number of people getting new kit at the same time, they flood support lines if it doesn't go smoothly.

BTW Paulo, could you check something with your router if you don't mind ?

Can you telnet to it from an inside address please ?? If you don't understand what I mean, don't worry about it ;) if you do, let me know if you see a user prompt or not.

I'm having problems with mine, it seems to be severely lobotomised :( It does the basics nice and quickly, just trying to get the flash stuff working.
