BBS Days

Me and my brother ran a bbs, started just after 14.4k modems appeared, I think around 93/4? Used RA BBS I think.. can't remember anything much else, or what other boards I used.. h/p/a/v/c anyone? (I can only remember what the first two letters stand for now..)

I remember using bluebox/blackbox (?) to make free calls to keep the costs down, but also it was around the time things were moving from anaologue to digital exchanges so half the time wouldn't work.
And the noise...

The thing I miss most of all was that sense of magic, that you were involved in something amazing that no one else knew about.

Yeah it was magic alright:-) But there were a hellava lot of people who knew about it, did you see the number of entries in a nodelist? And those just covered the nodes and points, not the users on each node..
Trouble is the last nodelist I looked at, well lets just say it wasnt what it used to be.. a few nodes in the eastern part of europe:-/

But they were good times while they lasted, but like many things.. now gine with the winds of change..

I had a Supra one too! The US Robotics Sportster modem always reminded me of a Stylophone. I'll never forget the racket it used to make when connecting too.

*goes all nostalgic for squishy white noise

Mmmmm.. US Robotics Courier HST bought on the sysop deal, Wantree's RemoteAccess 2, FrontDoor, ANSI art...

Those were the days.

<waves to all the former Arkham BBS users :) >
