BBC refuse to broadcast appeal for humanitarian aid to gaza

And...

As well as complaining please can everyone give what they can - so that the Disaster Emergency Committee is able to help the suffering people in Gaza despite the crap decision by the BBC.

Indeed - I've just made another £50 donation this morning, gift aided so about £64 with the tax.

GOOD NEWS:

The ITV Network has announced they will now be showing the appeal! :)

The pressure mounts.

Not directly related to the main issue, (so feel free to delete mods) but did anyone notice the BBC's Director-General Mark Thompson quietly taking back their apology over showing the events at Orgreave in the wong order?

No, really? Got a link (personally I think it's a valid tangent to explore in this thread, Butchersapron).

More and more I am thinking that the Ofcom decision NOT to share my Tv licence fee with other TV channels is WRONG.

I’ve just complained to Sky using this form.

I am not a subscriber, but if anyone is – threaten to cancel if they don’t run it.

Hardly surprising the BBC won't show the appeal, they don't do adverts and they don't want to risk the lives of the 50 or so staff they have in Israel.

Oh come on, it is NOT an advert and the BBC normally does show these appeals.

Thanks all for the efforts on this (these) threads.

For info, the problem at the BBC stems from this outrageous appointment:

BBC appoints Middle East tsar

BBC said:
The BBC has created a new senior editorial post to advise on its Middle East coverage, as the corporation continues to come under fire for alleged anti-Israeli bias.

...

The BBC's Middle East coverage proved controversial earlier this year when the Israeli leader, Ariel Sharon, barred the corporation from a press conference during a visit to London, amid accusations that the corporation made false allegations against Israel in a documentary about weapons of mass destruction.

That situation has been resolved but it has been a difficult year for the BBC's coverage of the region, with Downing Street accusing the corporation of siding too closely with Saddam Hussein's Iraqi regime during the Gulf war - an allegation the BBC denied.

The coverage got noticeably shittier after that. For example, last time Israel was razing Gaza, they'd show maps of Rafah right on the border to back up the Israeli excuse that they were looking for tunnels. When the action moved miles away from the border, they just stopped showing maps but repeated the tunnels lie. Tom Hurndall was described as dying in "an exchange of gunfire" even after an Israeli court had convicted two soldiers of lying about there being any return fire. And, of course, the shameful coverage of Gaza this time around.

Impartial my arse.

Right, I’ve just spoken to C-4, the operator could only say that normally these appeals are transmitted when all broadcasters are in agreement and a situation like this has never occurred before, and at present they have no further information.

Although he did make clear that C-4 has made no announcement that they would not transmit unlike the BBC, ITV & Sky had.

So, send your requests for C-4 to transmit the appeal via this form.

you really are an astoundingly ignorant prick arent you?

get back to firebombing non-existing fash, there's a good eejit

Clueless cocks.
nost of the been journo's, apparently agree entirely that it is a completely fuck-witted and cowardly decision by the useless fool Mark Thompson.

"It;ll be the main item all day unless someone kills the bloody queen" a bloke I was chatting to from SHeffbeeb was telling me.

I thought it would be good if we started to post what else we were doing to circulate this information beyond Urban75. I have posted some stuff on indymedia and facebook. Anyone else?

Just got my brother, who is a Sky customer, to complain & threaten to cancel - so come on peeps threaten to hit them in the pocket.

A simple request to C-4 takes just a few minutes:

Gaza Appeal.

As you will be aware at the moment the BBC is still refusing to transmit this appeal, whereas ITV has now confirmed they will.

As a public service broadcaster I am hoping you will take the right decision and transmit this.

Could you please confirm your position?

Thank you.
