I love my expensive Iriver but I recently bought an Asda cheapy for kickin about the garden etc for £4 which sounds just the bloody same

Actually when I say the Sony thing is fine I should embellish. The machine is great, and the interface is fine.

However the software that Sony have to run it is beyond horrible.

I use my walkman phone, W810i. It is fucking brilliant.

Incidentally, you dont HAVE to use itunes with an ipod, you could use winamp with the ml_ipod plugin, you know. In fact, I just checked, and winamp v5.2 above has iPod support.

don't have one but planning to get one soon. looking like the creative zen 4gb is the one i'll get although some of the cheaper ones (samsung, sansdisk) have good reviews

I have an iPod Mini, 4th gen ones. I use software called www.Ephpod.com to up date that, which works perfectly but hasn't been updated for the later generations of iPods.

My Sony K800i can take 1Gb memory cards, I've decided to use that instead. Quite a primitive interface but it saves me carrying two things.

oooh i'll give that a try this evening, thanks :)

As for what I'm using.. PocketMusic on my SPV m600 PDA phone thing.. 4GB memory. Does the job.. the 2.5mm jack is annoying though.

Just found a 2Gb M2 stick for my phone. Only problem with the phone is that it requires you to use the Sony headphones? Wonder if there is a headphone adaptor for it yet? <goes to ebay> ahh yes, 4 quid.

If it's one of those that reels in the cable (though I suspect not at that price) my £10 one broke after a few months use.

Ended up with an adapter that doubles up as a mic/remote control for the phone and music player that cost a few pounds more.

I bought a Hango PJB-100 back in 2000. Came with a 6 gig HD and it was fantastic. Superb sound quality (for an MP3 player) and gapless recording/playback, which few if any subsequent MP3 players have done as flawlessly. I took the whole BBC Lord of the Rings radio series and loads of music away on holiday.

That machine went around the world with me 2004-2006, after I'd upgraded the HD to 40GB.

I've now succumbed to a 1st gen iPod nano and a 60 gig ipod video, but the PJB still has a place in my heart.

The creative software is so awful that regardless of how many wonderful features it has I'd rather have an iPod any day of the week.

I bought a Creative Zen Nano plus today

I'm glad I decided on it and wasn't brainwashed by apple even if i-pods are infinitley sexier :D

I've not owned an MP3 player before ( ) so I expect i'll think it's the bees knees

Got an ipod video its outstanding, got no problem with itunes either does everything i want it to and have no problems with the interface.

I've got a sexy-but-stupid Sony NWA3000. Hardware was nice until a month ago when the front came off, now it's held on with sellotape so it's not even sexy anymore. Software's fking awful - slow, unreliable and frustrating. I'm tempted by the phones that can read flash cards - would be good to put in an 8g one - but I'd never buy a Sony again. Once the NWA dies I'm probably getting a Zen, or maybe a dirt-cheap flash one.

One thing that often lets Sony down, shit software. Their software development department is easily the worst performing section of what is otherwise a very talented team of engineers. Perhaps they let the engineers have too much control over their products?

I reckon that out of the Sony Ericsson partnership, Ericsson probably did the software.

How does it perform?

For the money, excellent!
Only downside is with movie files, you have to convert them into a .AMV format specific to the player ( software included )
If I was to buy again i'd prolly get the 2" screen one though.

Ive had a 20gb Creative Zen Sleek for a year.
Almost to the day the warranty ran out, it told me that it had a Hard Disk problem.

I never liked the slide touch volume, even with the sensitivity turned down it was way too sensitive.

I've got a Creative Zen Vision M 60GB which I think is brilliant. I use MediaMonkey as the transfer software.

I brought my Good Lady Wife an Apple iPod nano 8GB which I also think is brilliant. She uses MediaMonkey too.

We both have different needs. I wanted plenty of storage space and a radio while she was more interested in the lightness of her player.

We're both happy.

Who preferred the original ipod Nano with the square edges? The newer one is just a mini ipod mini.

Yeah I prefered the old one. Looked like something that slides smoothly out of a glowing slot on the bridge of a scifi spaceship.

One of those new little clip iShuffle's. Really like it.
I've always been on a Mac, so I've no idea about anything but iTunes - Both work fine for my needs.

I had a cheap argos venturer 40gb mp3 player,
it was a brick but I liked it.
After a year or so the headphone jack broke.
I now have expensive ipod video
Advantages it had over ipod
1. better sound
2. one touch access to EQ menu
3. when listening to random - two touches to switch to the
album that the track you're listening to was on.
the easy to go back to random again.
I can't figure out how to do this on iPod.
4.you can put files on in folders/directories using win explorer
5. it showed the bitrate of mp3s - I like to see my info!!

Ipod better
design, (size weight)
other features video - pics
synchronization - this is handy
better shuffle list

I'm happy with the ipod, but
I don't think the browsing interface is that good
esp for moving to an album from shuffle mode.
or changinmg eq

I bought a Creative MuVo 1gb to use when running (cheap as fuck and works well)

I have another one that i use when i'm doing something more sedate where i'm not likely to drop or jiggle it to the ground :p that's a bit more expensive (but not by much) and both of em are better than the (overpriced imo) i-pod i used to use.

Good point - I'll have to look at some reviews and see whether it's being slagged off yet. Could be a good option - how much do the phones cost?

iRiver H320. Not big enough, can hardly find them any more, battery's running out, but it's ace. Not seen anything better yet.
