Nice touch

But she fell off the back of a pony, didn't she? Broke her collarbone. So perhaps it's a sensitive issue for her.

Ironic - given that her music fell off the back of a lorry.

Give that pony an OBE.

If we're on the non-musical.. then the worst thing about Madonna has to be that dire display at live8.. dear oh dear.. :(

I never saw Who's That Girl, only Desperately Deeking Susan, which I loved at the time. I bought loads of bangles and every time I was at a hot air dryer, I'd lift up my arms and get some air under my armpits, Madonna-style.

Thankfully I didn't stay in my Susan stage for long :o I was about 13 – just about the right age to be listening to Madonna or Goldfrapp.

I'd consumed the best part of a litre of blue Smirnoff during that gig - I was in the crowd, but wouldn't have noticed Madonna, otherwise I might have lobbed the empty bottle - what did I miss?

i thought Madonna was EASILY the best thing all day.

I was thinking of her and that African girl they brought onto the stage..with Mags engaging in all the theatrical hugging..

There's something kind of Noosha Fox-ish about Ms Goldfrapp which makes her quite appealing.

Oh that!!

:D

What a fucking joke... Madonna even trying to flirt with the girl in a desperate Britney-esque attempt to gain psudo-lipstick lesbian credibility... just like her dire performance with Ms Spears at the MTV awards...

funny. a minute a go you said you hadn't noticed her :p

One of the most vomit-inducing moments in pop – not even surpassed by Chris & Gwynnie...

I thought Madonna was one of the better acts. The thing with the African girl wasn't Madges fault. The girl didn't realise that she was supposed to leave once the music started, so Madonna incoporated her into the number. It looked slightly akward, but was a lot better than embarrassing her by dragging her off stage.

I own a goldfrapp album and would possibly buy another one is it was any good. I would never ever buy a maddonna album therefore goldfrapp and the lovly alison win.

well, we can ignore the voting. Kained prefers Goldfrapp, so that's her career over by Christmas :D

ooooh - how very snobby!! :D

Yes, they're so frightfully common as well.

;)

Don't get me wrong, I have plenty of time for frivolous music, but neither Madonna nor Goldfrapp have got any real substance for me, there's nothing in their music that sticks to the ribs, no.... well, passion.

Madonna has never been close to making original music - it's all been derivative.

And she's never managed to convey anything as powerful and original as Goldfrapp's "Lovely Head".

Hadn't noticed her singing, thank fuck - saw that clip on a replay... believe me by the time Floyd came on I was flying....

Well, Madge did do some great stuff a few years back. Nothing of hers has offended me since the 80s, but nothing really moves me.

Whereas Felt Mountain is such a beautiful haunting atmospheric cd. Lovely head is just fantastic - makes the hairs on the back of my head stand up.

Shame though, that their last two albums, while good, pale in comparison with their debut.

Oooh, it's close!

Madonna - 15 = 53.57%
Goldfrapp - 13 = 46.43%

Just need a few more people with a bit of taste to vote...

This should swing it:

Looks like Goldfrapp clinched it then - 18 votes to 17.

Never mind Dub...

it's really hard - i do like madonna and nearly selected "Like a prayer" to bring to PRoD this month (but it won out to something else). Got to love pop, and she's done some great pure pop.

But Goldfrapp's so duuuurrrrrrty. Rather like Moloko's "pure pleasure seeker", it's rare that i find electronic pop that has that filthy element...

In 20 years madonna hasn't made anything i like as much as "strict machine".
