Progress update - Can now do American Idiot by Green Day :D

Fretbuzz still causing problems though, and I think its me rather than the height of the strings - I'm not getting my fingers down fast enough, so the string has a chance to "bounce" a bit iyswim

im not a fan of slap but when i was 15-16 his bass, technically, on Blood sugar sex magix i thought was the biz at the time. So i bought the tab and learnt the whole album.

 at the time. :D

That still is the biz man! Some wicked b-lines on there, Apache Rose Peacock, Give it Away, Mellowship slinky in B major

But yeah slap is great for impressing other bassists, try and put it into a song though and its just mean stares from the rest of the band :D

I just bought new bass strings at lunch time today. Dam it. Forgot how expensive they are.
Personally I use a pick because I like a clean sound for most stuff. Alah Steve Harris iron Maiden. Also I like Roger Entwistle's, from the Who, sound. Done with the tone down i think and the neck pick up more.

70's stuff usually has the bass quite promanent in the mix. Depends if you like that stuff though.

You mean JOHN Entwhistle. Nah. he got his sound from using Hiwatt heads with plenty of Valve gain to get the dirt and Sunn Cabinets. Entwhistle one of those rere bassists that picked using three fingers. Didnt use picks. hes the fucking daddy.

What is your amp volume setting on a ratio of ten?

Entwhistle [sic]: Five or six, full treble. I use two amps: full treble and full base. The cabinets are split, so the treble comes out on top of the amp. I set my guitar about two-thirds on, and then at the end I turn it full up.

"JOHN Entwhistle."
:o

Doh.
Yep that's who I meant. Cheers for the info there. I particularly like the bass on the Quadraphenia album. Not the soundtrack, the actual album. Think I've got a Hiwatt patch on this amp moddler job. must give this a go again.

Oooh, bass porn. I am going to have to get mine out and photograph it (it's an electric blue fretted through-neck Overwater 4-string, and I don't play it nearly enough).
