Bass guitar

I've found that low down makes it easier for my right hand, but high up makes it easier for my left....

Hold it at an angle then you silly sausage  :D

Most important thing you're going to have to decide: how high will you hold your bass?

Like this

Hooky wins hands down, but if I tried playing like that now I'd do my back in.:(

Alter the height of the strings:)

What he said.

You might find that you need to adjust the truss rod in the neck.

Get your allen keys out, you're in for some fun :D

can I use an allan key to turn it off yet?
You can swap with me if you want Aqua. I have alternate drums, acoustic guitar, and electric guitar, and sometimes, for a special treat, I have five teenagers playing various instruments but not actually making a recognisable tune  :D

I assume you don't want to join our bass guitar appreciation society then :D

Tell me you're not moved by this...

You'd sound like another guitarist who thinks the bass is just an easier version of a 'proper guitar' - you'd noodle away with no rythym and people would hate you :p

I second that. Typical post from your dumb cunt lead guitarist. Funny thing is iv also played lead guitar for since i was 12. Its just as easy as bass, theres only two more strings and your always got the bass player or drummer there to hold your timing. Easiest job in a band.

Sadly MXtabs decided to close down before they got closed down by lawsuits and copyrighting etc :( but the bass tab archive is still up - I always preferred it 'cos it wasn't user-moderated, meaning you didn't get 5 copies of one song that were ALL IN THE WRONG KEY:mad:

Incidentally, I'm a bass player and I can play guitar too, and I'm also learning to make / repair guitars:cool:.

A lot of fret buzz comes from left hand strength / technique (knowing when NOT to be heavy handed is just as important!) so practise a bit more before you play with your action. I used to play 'scar tissue' by the chili peppers and get it note and rhythm-perfect, but something sounded wrong. I now know it's that my left hand couldn't make the string rest neatly on the fret, so it wobbled and buzzed.

That reminds me, if you're into the Red Hot Chili Peppers (or even if you don't but can stomach them;)) then learn as much as you can by them. There're hundreds of songs, mostly really easy but really nice and fun to play and not boring at all. The perfect balance between piss-easy and impressive! With lots of good technique in there. I always say:

"I got this good by playing along to chili peppers CDs all day"

Good luck, I reckon bass players are the most content members of any band. (read that: We're the best people in every band:p)

he's not sounding too bad now, its been demoted from that hated thing to the thing that sometimes makes nice sounds :)

Scar Tissue bass is double tracked on the album - hence the lack of low end when you hear it live and flea plays the solo bit ;)

Good point though, I learned loads from the chilis.

im not a fan of slap but when i was 15-16 his bass, technically, on Blood sugar sex magix i thought was the biz at the time. So i bought the tab and learnt the whole album.

 at the time. :D
