Bass guitar

Aye; damping is key with yer actual bass. It's worth trying to get your right hand working adequately before your left hand does a lot, I reckon.
Yeah, I've just spent half an hour going up and down the open strings, my brain has the concept now, just a case of getting my hand to obey its commands :D

Ooh what did you get, or was it a no-name? The only one I ever had was the "Lisa Special", named after an instrument maker (Lisa), it was the 1st thing she ever built and was held together with bits of elastoplast.

Bees' next musical challenge...

keep it up bees -- better you get the more rewarding it becomes :)

my next instrument is keys -- i got hold of a 4-octave electric one to learn on but a key smashed off during a party. an A key incidentally.

meh :)

The bass has to be one of the easiest instruments to learn. You're rarely hitting more than one note, you've only got four strings to pick from, you rarely ever have do do anything 'fancy' or intricate.

If you've played the piano for so long, the bass guitar should be no problem. I play a 'proper' guitar and reckon I could walk into a band playing bass tomorrow.

Piece of piss.

You'd sound like another guitarist who thinks the bass is just an easier version of a 'proper guitar' - you'd noodle away with no rythym and people would hate you :p

i'm all too guilty of that myself :)

but i love bass -- i used to hate it; with the logic "why play the instrument nobody hears or listens to?" -- now i love it cause only the bassist makes yer heart shake :)

it is damn hard to get out of guitarrist habits when transferring to bass.. but the reverse is also true :)

Basic major scales are coming along nicely, although damping previous strings is still a bit wonky :)
I used to have that problem with a full-sized Fender copy. I now use a three-quarter size bass which is also as light as fuck - the same resonance but far easier to control, and possibly even lighter than my guitar.

Or maybe I'm just guilty of a typical guitarist-switches-to-bass cop-out...:o

yes, a bass should be the size and weight of a medium sized man.

I am mainly a bass player but I play guitar as well, i find that I never play riffs on the geetar just tricky chords, perhaps that's the bass player subconsciously kickin in

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is where all those bad bass players come from.:D

It's like football, mate. The winger might think the centre back is a boring neanderthal, bit if your flash winger faffs around and messes it up, he can just try again later. If your centre back does the same, the ball's in the back of the net.

Stick to guitar noodling, for everyone's sakes.;)

I'd say I'm of average music ability. Played the guitar on and off for years and have a bash at a few other things from time to time. Give me an instrument and a day and I'll most the time I'll get something sounding really nice out of it. So yeah I'm neither shite musically or anything special.

I'm looking to get a bass for recording purposes and cos I like them, but I don't actually own one. But when a friend has given me one for an inpromtu living room jam I've done alright. I've been roped into playing bass a few times for singer/songwriter friends gigs, and I've only needed hearing the song once to put a nice sounding bass line to it.

I doubt a bass player could be given a day and a guitar to get to the stage where they'd be comfortable playing it on stage.

I know many guitarists that can more than competently play the bass, whereas I've only ever seen one basist pick up a regular guitar and think "Wow, you're actually really good!".

To me that says it all.

;)

I,m a good bass player of reggae and funk but Ive played guitar in bands too guitar playing aint difficult if you think a little more about what your'e palyin
