Baseball season

"your" start had a lot to do w. going to Japan for the season opener. I don't know what MLB was thinking. The Yankees were so out of it, it was a miracle they could play, period. the Sox have played something like 21 games w/o a day off. and w/o our 2 aforementioned players, we're lucky to be where we are. No one expects Crespo to be here once they get back.

Yankees 22-15
Boston 22-16
-------------------
Cubs 22-15

Pretty close amongst the three of us, right now, huh? :p

I hate baseball!

Anaheim 25 13
Texas 22 15 .
Oakland 20 17
Seattle 13 24

Being ahead of Seattle is a slight comfort but really WTF!!!??? :(

In the league with the team with the best record in baseball.

Remember three years ago, when Seattle just were the best team (by a mile) but still didn't win the world series (coz of their pitching)?

That's what could happen to the Yanks this year.

Anyone gonna credit the perfect game?

Are we talking about Wells' perfect game, here? In... 98? Magnificent acheivement, but I think I've missed the significance...?

Latest reports are linking the Yankees with Freddy Garcia, from Seattle...

:o

What a dick! me

I'm sorry for being ultra-thick. I even knew he wasn't with us (though I love talking to more knowledgable people) but this was all over NASN and I just went funny.

:o

Oh I feel such a fool. I'm sorry. I know nothing about baseball.

It's been on NASN all week because it was his birthday this week, and they showed it as his greatest achievement, Flims. And being NASN, it's been repeated about 4 times...

Garcia would be a good capture, I reckon. 46 wins in the last 3 seasons and with the run support he'd get at the Yanks, he could easily get 20. He's 1-2 this year, but with an ERA of only 2.34 in 7 starts. And he's only 28.

I know Freddy Garcia.

I am, however, gonna build my confidence up before making any more definitive statements...

I should not drink during baseball. :o

Blame NASN, that's what I say!

I turned on the other day and Prior was pitching. It took me at least an inning to work out that it was a replay from last year

And then, there's my long, long post on another forum about the Texas Rangers. It should have been clear to me when I was typing it, as it was to everyone who read it, that I was actually talking about the Houston Astros... Bagwell, Biggio, Minute Maid, Clemens, Pettitte... *sigh*

:D

Janine, I feel really stupid.

I'm a Yankees fan coz its the only stadium I've been to, and I loved it.
aw, no worries. :) you should go out to San Francisco and see the Giants stadium! We're fans of them as well as the Red Sox. They have a gorgeous stadium.

These guys on the other hand are in the play offs, despite a brave attempt at throwing away a storming first half of the season!

Come on you Leafs!

Coming soon - the NHL play offs thread...

Not anymore, they're not.

Rotten torontonians.....

Calgary kicks ass.

I don't have any personal connection to any particular American city. I've never even been to America. So when I started watching baseball I had to pick a team.

I didn't want to pick a team like the Yankees for reasons similar to those expressed by Matt Damon when he was asked why he supports Leeds United at soccer. He said that when he first started watching soccer the team that seemed to be on the the tv the most was Manchester United, so he was tempted to start following them. Then someone told him that supporting Man Utd is the soccer equivalent of cheering for the Yankees. If I have to pick a team, I'm certainly not going to pick the richest and most succesful one.

I wasn't intentionally looking for the very worst team either though. I just liked the idea of Detroit. My mental image is of this big, crumbling, declining industrial city, which I find kind of attractive. Also, Detroit is the home of more great music than any other city in the world. From Soul to proto-punk (MC5, Stooges) to Detroit techno, nowhere else in the world has a musical history like it.

I cheer for the Detroit Lions as well, which can be equally depressing. Unless you are into Ice Hockey (and I'm not) Detroit's sports teams don't win a lot. I suppose the Pistons are pretty good too, but I'm not particularly interested in basketball.

If you don't know much about the cities, at least go for a team with some soul. Try the Chicago Cubs, or the Oakland A's. If you want to get a little more obscure, you can cheer for the Seattle Seahawks. We do, but only because they're close.

I second the vote for Pac Bell (oops...SBC) Park in San Francisco. Beautiful Park. Safeco Field in Seattle is pretty great too.

Also...Congratulations to Randy Johnson on pitching a perfect game. Wonderful work Big Unit...magnificent baseball history...so great in fact, they announced it during the Giants game tonight and the crowd started to cheer him on as if he was in the stadium...(for a rival no less...but hey it was baseball history...)

I couldn't go near the Giants. The only other baseball fan amongst my friends supports them.

WTF has happened to Seattle this year?

Doesn't it matter to you that they're playing the wrong sport?

The Seattle baseball team is the Mariners... :p

I don't know about Seattle. Both of my teams have become total crap. Both Seattle and San Francisco had some pretty bad offseason trades, though I haven't kept my eye on Seattle as much. The Giants went from always being atop their division to being one of the worst teams out there pretty quickly - but we now know who the true fans are...

Who cares what's happened to tha Mariners their form is the only lining in a very very big dull cloud.....sodding bloody Yankess stealing our best players (obv they didn't but you know in the spirit of Yankess bashing ;) ).

Grrrrrrrrr............

I care about the Mariners...but I will Yankee-bash with you if you Dodger-bash with me...not quite the same, I know...but both are equally fun...

Oh yeah i'm up for that  to the Dodgers too. Never liked them.

My post has nothing to do with my disliking of the Mariners, I have no beef with them but for us A's fans their form is the only highlight so far. I mean Anaheim!!! FFS! the world's gone mad.

Nothing wrong with Fenway either.
hehe, couldn't very well blow my own horn, could I now? ;) Altho, I have to say, we have too many obstructed seats, and the seats are designed for people under 5'8" - to say nothing about the width! :D
The Cleveland stadium is pretty good too.
