Barton to released in time for the 2008-09 season!

Mmmm i thought that sweet & misunderstood bloke i.e. Joey Barton that he has a sentence for 6 months, and on top of that a suspended sentance of 4 months, and yet he's released. Especially with the new season not so far way.

I know that there are some U75 legal types in the forum. But Is this standard practice?

IANAL, but time on remand counts towards sentence, plus defendants are released automatically half way through their sentence except for life imprisonment, detention at HM's pleasure, extended sentences and imprisonment for public protection.

What's rare though is that he was given a suspended sentence despite being a serving prisoner. It does happen, but often Judges won't even consider non-custodial options for serving prisoners.
