Barrister Mark Saunders shot dead by police in Kings Road (2008). Inquest update

I see. Fair enough. And I phrased wrong, not murder but killing.

I still don't see why they went right into the room which had been fired into. Wouldn't it have been more appriorate to approach the direction of where the window was facing first?

Police did their job this time no problems.
You (nor anyone else, to be honest) have no way of knowing that at this stage.

And for the benefit of Woollyredhat, there is no possibility of aiming to injure someone rather than kill them. If there is justification to use a firearm at all, then the purpose of the use is to stop the threat. That means stopping someone pulling the trigger. The best way of doing that is by aiming a pair of shots into the trunk. The head would not be preferred to the trunk if both were visible (unless it were suspected to be a "loaded" suicide bomber in which case the only possible means of stopping the threat is repeated shots to the head to cause instantaneous brain stem death). If the head was visible but the trunk were not (as in the case of the guy I nearly shot) then the head would be targetted.

The reality is that a pair of shots to the trunk (or head) are likely to be fatal. That is not the absolute intention, however - it is an inevitable side effect of the intention to stop the threat.

Injuring someone in the arm or leg does not usually stop the threat. It just means you have a maniac with a gun and a fucking sore leg ...

iirc they are taught to aim for the centre of body mass mainly because its the easiest part to hit, though i may be mistaken.
That's the secondary reason (primary if you are as shit a shot as I was ... ). The primary reason is that is the most effective area to stop the threat and (unlike the head) still leave some, albeit low, chance of survival.

That'll explain he four police vans I saw tearing along Picadilly at 5.30pm last night, all with their blues and twos on. I had to turn up my ipod!

No, he's just pointing the gun at yous for the crack...

Would their first instinct be aim for the head for injure not kill, if possible?

I mean, could murder have been avoided?
Tbh, I think to let them get into the situation of being directly opposite the shooter was pretty stupid...

1) Returning fire isn't "murder".
2) You're taught to aim for the largest mass, i.e. the torso, as you're more likely to hit the target than if you attempt to wound.
3) A headshot will almost always kill, but if you hit the head or are aiming for it, you're not doing your job properly.

"Don't start shooting a gun in a public area" is generally a good way to keep everyone alive...

Ah , the Brazilian maneuver. Stopped any terrorists lately?

Not the first family lawyer I've heard of to lose the plot.

sorry DB, it was only a joke.
Apology accepted, thanks. Had to report it as it's the only action I have left as the mods have asked that I don't respond directly to such posts myself (though Crispy's post seems to suggest they don't even want me to do that :()

Isn't this a tad off-topic, seeing as there's no indication the guy last night was a terrorist...

Earlier a woman told the BBC she called the police after the gunman fired three shots into her child's bedroom with a shotgun for "no reason".

Best place for him then.

Oh there are a few...not mythical...in saying that they are the same people who typically hate the rich so this incident has them bamboozled...

Then who are they?
They're forever being mentioned, but unless you're referring to an arse like attica, who nobody takes seriously anyway, or enumbers, who gets a bit manic, then I'm stumped. I've too often seen any criticism of police taken as "ACAB" on this board to take all this "ACAB crew" stuff seriously without someone backing up the claims with names.

The usual people who pop-up on threads dealing with cops and don't have anything else to contribute except for the same tired posts...
