Baros to Villa pt.1,357

yeah we got him at last...but at the cost of salano it would seem....if he dont go in the initial transfer he'l go soon anyway....if we can get another defender and some form of replacment for salano then maybe i wont be planning the mass murder of a certain board*...

*joke

Apparently no exchange was involved in the deal. Just £ 6 million up front, with another £ 500,000 based on appearances.

yeah i firmly belive solano will still go before the deadline....or possably jan in which case he might as well go now.....

baros...well we need him....who gets dropped though...on form its gotta be angel surley?.....

Oh dear. Villa become even more a nothing team. Liverpool get too much money for a shite player*

*though not as shite as a certain beanpole they spent more on!

Definately. Angel has been offering very little, he needs a firm kick up the backside. Our squad needs pace upfront and someone who can finish - something we lacked when Vassell was racing forward, getting into good positions only for Angel to miss sitters like Savo. Angel would hold the ball up well, and play the ball through for Vassell, but we'd all know what would happen next.

Baros is as fast as Vassell, but more skillful. Phillips is a natural goalscorer and a predator - something we've missed since Dion.

Now all we need is a decent central defender, and right back and - something we've been missing for years -

A FAST, CREATIVE MIDFIELDER. Can you hear me, David?

Bah, your just jealous. How's James Beattie these days? :D

Firstly, I don't think that's true, but even if it were, it doesn't stop Baros being average and Villa being, at best, an average side.

You'll be going on and on and on about 'only' being 8 or so points off a European place as long as such and such wins the cup and such and such wins the Champions League and so on - from 10 games in, until about 3 games to go, when you'll shut up and start speculating about who's in the reserves at Newcastle or Liverpool who you can pick up during the close season.

What IS the point in your club?

Except for giving failed managers a temporary job and feeding cash to above named clubs.

:p

Sorry, I forgot the conclusion....

therefore, calling me jealous is ridiculous (especially when I was desperate for us not to sign Baros because he isn't good enough).

I could write a lot of speil about Everton.......

.....but fuck it. Its the start of a new season, we've just signed a player that will give the squad a lift, and I'm looking forward to the ride. Its year 0 as far as last season goes, and it counts for very little.....

...well it will do for Everton tomorrow night away to Villareal..... :p

Except we'll be in the UEFA cup at worst.

Now, this thread isn't about Everton. We haven't just signed Baros, and nowhere have I claimed we're the 'dogs bollocks'.

So, when was Villa's last good season? Actually, there wasn't even anything about a 'good' season in my posts above. When was the last time Villa fans had ANYTHING to get excited about - good or bad? When they got promoted in the 80s? League Cup win early 80s?

Surely winning the league in 1981 would rate higher.

And more recently, the two league cups in the 90's.

And being one of the single digit number of teams to have won the double.

God, Everton fan's eh!?

I hoped Baros would stay at Anfield this year. Him with Crouch would perhaps have worked better than other forwards he's played with (seems to work well with Koller for the Czechs).

If he could improve his technique when one on one then he'd score a lot more goals, or at least he would have done last season. The amount he missed in key games really ended an excellent spell he had at the start of last season. It probably killed his confidence and Rafa's confidence in him. I don't know his record after Christmas but its probably something like 3 in 20.

At Villa his hogger style will just run rampant with the rubbish you have in midfield, especially if Solano goes. I still expect him to be a success and if he stays injury free, he'll probably beat the 13 he scored for us last season.

With the World Cup next year, if he can repeat Euro '04 and top score, then another couple mil will be added to his pricetag and he'll fuck off to Barcelona or he'll have a new dream club.

Its win-win if you're Villa, I can't believe he's choosing them over champions league footie at Lyon. Must really fucking hate Houiller.

Nice one Villa....

Let's hope he doesn't do a Dean Saunders and score two past us when we play you lot next.

I think he'll do well at Villa and score a fair few goals....

I'd like to see Solano at Anfield - but not sure if that's going to happen.

I hope Relahni's right about this. I'm just hugely relieved that we've got another striker with Premiership experience, even if he hasn't really fulfilled his potential with Liverpool.

I just hope that we haven't given up Solano in exchange - seems we may find out today.

He's fast, he'll score goals - he's a good player

If i was being critical, I'd say he can be a bit Forest Gump - head down run with little knowledge of what is around him.

His passing isn't great - he loses the ball a lot when up front.

Was a bit annoyed that he never got a fair crack of the whip under Houllier due to Emile Heskey!

I think he'll do ok at Villa.....

Now, can we have Solano please......

solano aint a makewieght in the deal from what i know......but dont mean to say he wont go anyhow....i have a feeling he might stay till jan then we'l flog him on the cheap to salvage a few quid before the end of he's contract

i must say i'm still gobsmacked by the fact Liverpool spent £7m on Rodney out of Only Fools and Horses and dumped Baros for £6. but time will tell.

and I'm glad villa have actually bought someone from a team that wasnt relegated the year before.

We desperately need a solid defender, like Relahni :) , and a creative midfielder, like gary shaw  . only then will we have a remote chance of euroballs

Gary Shaw? He was a striker!

We need a creative midfielder similar to how David Platt or Paul Merson played for us. We also need to sign a central defender that can actually play more than 10 games a season (cough, cough Martin Laursen), and a left back who is'nt always on another planet (cough, cough, J'Loyd Samuel) and walking around like a friggin' zombie....

See, I said that during the European Championships and people looked at me well funny.
