Plenty of Christians etc have died in NATO bombing raids and it hasn't stopped daesh killing them. I'd be willing to bet that some of the Shia civilians killed at the weekend in Kabul or the ones in the Baghdad a few weeks ago had relatives killed in US bombing raids too.

I don't know, I think it has quite a lot to do with salafi-jihadism rather than islam in general. It's true that it's nothing to do with how most muslims practice the religion and that most muslims are revolted by isis but these people plainly believe that they are acting according to their beliefs, the guy who killed the priest was apparently obsessed with religion. These attacks aren't random. It's obviously true that most muslims abhor their beliefs but that isn't the same as them not having some sort of religious motivation, even if almost everyone else wouldn't recognise it as such

I'm not going to pretend to comprhend their motivation anymore. To me, it seems that they are random acts carried out by random individuals, many with mental health issues under the umbrella of ISIS. They may aspire to Islamic State - they may have contacts with. Or may not.
