Bank's on-line service "use IE" or else

I couldn't agree with you more, but that doesn't manage to influence the DOCUMENTED bottom line when the corporates decide which web browser to use.

MS seem to have a embrace and alter strategy - they take on a standard then arse around with it. I'm not a MS basher but this tendency is annoying to say the least.

Exactly which security/encryption protocols does IE supprot that other browsers don't? Last I looked, they were all capable of SSL and TLS.

Security is managed server side and the digital certs. are installed on IIS hence the *apprantly* tighter intergration with IE.

I'm no crypto expert by any stretch of the imagination, but my self-signed apache certs are also installed on my apache server. What is this "integration" they speak of? Does IE use non-standard SSL/TLS certs or something?

Verisign certs are published on the IIS server, I assume that IE and IIS work tighter togather? Bearing in mind these developers are currently migrating their entire product range to a Linex OS I assume if they could use Firefox they could. If I got a selfsigned cert on my internet banking app I'd close the account.

Huh...? Certs should work the same in IIS and Apache... I've just checked with Firefox and Verisign is an known authority. There also seems to be tons of howtos on Apache and Verisign. Heck, at work we use Verisign certs on Apache, and even under various bts of Java weirdness. I've never really dealt with it -- just use self-signed for my own web server...

So, if anything, I'd guess its the level of encryption supported by Firefox may be lower than Opera/IE.
