I've never been to Bangface, but isn't it a post-modern, ironic 'nu rave' for people who missed out first time round? A bit like battle re-enactment for hipster students...

It might be a bit "post-modern" and "ironic" but I wouldn't say it's "nu rave" - you don't get the likes of The Klaxons there!

Though they do call themselves "neo-rave" - but have been doing so for many years now!)

I looked at the party photos on their website and it looked like hundreds of students auditioning for a Hollywood film called '1992 - The Movie'.

I prefer non-ironic parties, but maybe that's just me. Whatever floats your boat I suppose, but it looked like a pile of wank from the photos.

It can be a bit like that, but the trouble is that the line ups are often really really good. The acts aren't there ironically, and much of the crowd aren't. Kids can't help being kids, they don't know any better.

Fair enough, but people liking things ironically makes my blood boil. Especially if you're getting into the music non-ironically. Does that make you part of the entertainment for the students?

No, it just makes you in the way. The only thing that bothers me about Bangface is that they all crowd into a tiny place and dance really physically, almost slamdancing sometimes, and I'm a bit too delicate to be entirely satisfied by wall-eyed teens in day glo t-shirts jostling me and spraying me with their sticky phetsweat while i'm trying to monkey-dance to Kid606.

Yeah I went last month and it has definitely gone that way a bit more in the year and a half or so since the last time I went.

BUt the line up was still great and I still had a good time.
