Bangers chat

That's what does for bangers in Cornwall too. I had an 02 Ford Fiesta that died about 5 years ago because the entire back end was rusted out. Engine was fine but there was no way it was going through an MOT. Garage bloke asked if I parked it in the sea. :D

yeah its a bummer really hey.. most off road driving is in salt water where i live too. Gotta pressure hose it all down all the time.. there is some fresh water driving too when we get flooded. and mud

and you have salt on the roads in winter as well.

Austin Allegro 1.5 £450 the worst car you could imagine, always going wrong, fluffy seats

Ford Fiesta 1.1 £500 sound, go faster stripes, reliable motoring, can't recall why I sold it

Datsun/Nissan 1.6 £600 (The one before the Bluebird) sound car

Company cars for 10 odd years, can't beat a fully expensed company car

Rover 218 SLD Turbo, Free, sound machine, many years of service

Vauxhall Corsa 1.1 Free is doing me proud at the moment

I thought I would have real trouble selling the Allegro, in part because it had great trouble starting from cold so before the prospective buyers arrived I warmed it thoroughly and in the cassette player I put "fleetwood mac, the chain" with a slight delay so it would come on as they were driving it. When they came back they were grinning ear to ear and pressed their hard earnt cash into my sweaty palms, pretty much the same as I had paid for the useless car a year or so before :)

I also have a history of banger motorbikes, the most I paid was £700 in total for a crashed Suzuki which I rebuilt from parts. Sound machine, wish I never sold it.

What's with the blue strip on the bonnet?

Stone chip strip. Stops the stones bouncing up and taking out your windscreen. I've lost a couple of windscreens here, on a pajero (spits) and a landrover with a split screen. But tbh right now its just there to fill the holes in the bonnet that someone drilled to put it on there in the first place ;) I doubt i'll keep it on.

My eldest son can't let anything go. he has a great bike already, but found and bought back his first and second road bikes :D

Yes!

It was there when I bought the car. Black tape on a black bumper. About 6 inches long.

I like to think of it as colour co-ordinated reinforcement.

ETA: I still have the original gaffer tape on the bumper, so the tape's doing as well as the car itself.

:)

I'll get out and take some pics of my duct taped truck in the morning :oops:

First MOT only required a lightbulb, the next set us back about a grand. Later this week I’ll find out what it’ll cost us this year.

Passed with three advisories, one of which was that they couldn’t test one of the rear seatbelts with the child seat fitted. Just the forty quid test fee.

I'm gutted my 1998 Saab 900 will have to go in a couple of years as it's not ULEZ compliant. There will be a lack of bangers in London from that point :(

If you want to make yours look more banger-like, rip the tailgate emblem off and send me it so I can replace mine ;)

Ulez - think it's just inside the South Circular affected so I'll be alright

I had a couple of 200 series Rovers, always felt like it was about to go hideously wrong but never did.

One went over 200k in my ownership, I'd bought it on 160k for pennies.

Had a Rover 2.7si, really fast good driver's car.

Loved it but too expensive when electric systems started screwing up.

I really really really want a 3.5 V8 vitesse SDi.

I just bought a new truck! :) $4000 for a 89, 4.2L diesel Ford maverick, which is basically a patrol. It only has 222,000k on the clock!
Great bargain.

Ahh but that's in k's ice-is-forming, not manly chunky miles as in the UK here.

ps I always love going home, going for drives back to Durranbandi, via Dubbo usually, always a pleasant suprise when the direction signs, in k's, is always shorter time than I got used to here in UK. Any distances under 100 is a breeze!! :)

Stolen from Pistonheads, but this nice old Volvo estate was spotted in London the other day.

With a healthy 300,800 miles on the clock.

I nearly bought a G reg one of these a few years back and went for the A4 instead as it had half the mileage.

I always wanted an estate for all the shit I could shove in the back, but ended up putting a roof rack on the Audi and pileing the shit on top instead.

New truck can go on the road now  I'm sad to say bye to my old cruiser though, its been such a good truck. It'll never stop running, it's just that the body will fall apart around the engine :D Someone will buy it for off road only use. I'll get some pics of the rust tomorrow

meanwhile this popped up on my fb feed from 2012 <3 One of my best trucks ever :)

Mine got both those on its last MOT *spud*

It's currently in for its first service (first with me, not first ever, obviously). It makes a whine in first gear when the engine is cold and the engine light also comes on when you start it up, but they've just called and said they think the noise is just old banger business and there are no codes coming up on the diagnostic thing, so the lights are just probably electrical craziness (which is has a fair amount of, being a Citroen). Fucking sweet little bitch of a car. I have also pencilled in a first ever car wash when it's done.

My brake discs and pads are not in great shape, they said, but nothing urgent. This morning I heard a knocking sound as I was braking. Don't really want to mess about with something as serious as brakes. Back to the garage this week :/
