bands you've seen but didn't 'appreciate' at the time

"Stone Roses" playing a free Lunchtime gig at N.Uni of Ulster in 1988 or 89 while eating a dodgy pastie. Distinctly underwhelmed at the time (maybe it was the wrong time of day?)
Have warmed to them a bit more now but still a bit overrated (imho).

I saw Nirvana in Bristol (I think) they were supporting Tad (but we were there for Nirvana). I don't remember anything about the performance but did briefly speak to Kurt afterwards.

I think it was just before sliver but I can't be sure.

I'm not really a Nirvana fan and wasn't at the time so I don't think it reallly counts for this thread.

Yup, me too, at Leeds Duchess of York (RIP).

Saw Leatherface loads of times as 3rd on the bill - often at the Duchess again - and ignored them each and every time. Still have no interest in them but am told they are great.

Faith No More at Scunthorpe Baths Hall in 1987

huh really? the only "big" band i ever saw there was Ocean Colour Scene. i guess it's true i didn't "appreciate" them at the time, but i don't appreciate them now either

yeah, with Chuck Mosely on vox. They played there again with Mike wotisname a couple of years later - I didn't even bother that time.

i saw jane's addiction supporting the wonder stuff in 1990. had no idea who they were, and i thought they were shit. never really go into JA massively myself, but it seemed to make an awful lot of people at college jealous - and some people refused to believe that JA supported the stuffies!

that was a great night, they let it slip the night before at their Reading warm up at Subterrania and about 40 or so of us moshed hard enough to clear the front of of all the twats who had endured one band and thought they'd be there til the end. Then Perry Farrell got laringistis and cancelled Reading.

You must have even on the same train back, would have got off the stop b4 you. Had an open house that night, the coffee stain on the living room cieling was there for years.

Nivana supporting Tad, Mudhoney and MC4 at Portsmouth Poly though got thrown out do to ongoing fued with bloke who pulled a butterfly knife on me at the gig. (never saw TAD)

As I've mentioned on here before, I went to see Husker Du in 1987, and they just boring. They'd come to the end of their lifespan and they were lifeless and pretty much hacked off with the whole thing.

I saw Nirvana at the Astoria and I'm sure I liked it because I loved "Teen Spirit", but I can't remember a single thing about the show. :o

I thought the Pixies were boring when they headlined Reading. Whereas the Inspiral Carpets...now those guys knew how to put on a show...:o:o

(In my defence, the Inspirals pulled out all the cabaret stops for their headline slot - there were dancing cows, if I remember rightly....and lots of fireworks.)

I went to see Trumans Water at the Windsor Old Trout with a couple of mates , none of us were that bothered about who was playing we just fancied a gig . The support band was Elastica and it was apparently their first ever gig .

as opposed to the tetosterone charged dorks who attain 'release' by thrashing about at the front of the stage with no concern for the enjoyment or safety of anybody else like a bunch of toddlers who've just shat their nappies just cos they're too represed to go off and suck each others cocks ?

:)

I slept through the Zutons when they played some NME night at Brixton Academy a few years back.

They're still shit.

Mercury Rev - they were supporting Sheep on Drugs - but the fit lass I was on a double date with had lost her purse so I spent the Rev's set helping her try to find it (she didn't - and we never got it on :(). Not a great night's work.

Also, remember watching Oasis very early on - they were 2nd support to The Verve. Only one fat lad (not me!) was dancing. I was bored

I went to the Freddie Mercury Aids Concert thing circa 1991 - i was a 16 year old well into rave and Hardcore as it was back then.

I was quite into David Bowie and Roger Daltry, but not Queen, as i am now.

At the time wasn't bothered about:-

Metallica
Robert Plant
Elton John
George Michael
Tony Iommi
G n R
Spinal Tap

But would love to see them all now.

The biggest waste was that everyone was in rapture singing along to the Queen songs whilst i daydreamed, i love Queen now and would pay a lot of money to have the same experience now, with all these "legends".

I saw the Sex Pistols at St. Albans school of art a couple of times circa 1975 or 76 when one of the girls there was going out with Glen Matlock. All us hippie students just stayed in the bar. I think the Damned were supporting them once. About a year later I cut my hair and became a punk (albeit a nice middle-class one) and 'Never Mind the Bollocks' was never off the turntable.

OOOooooo-kaaaaaay, I don't think anyone is going to be beating THAT.

Probably Faith No More at Brixton Academy in '97 - at the time I was only really familiar with their last album, reconnised some of the other stuff played but only got their other albums once they'd split up. I guess at least I got to see them!

I saw the Macc Lads in Leeds Duchess, old licensing laws so we were the only people in there at opening time. Still couldn't get anything out of em though
