Bands that you never "got".

i have to say i think the manics have [had] something that no-one else has. i dunno if it's actually a good thing, but. novelty is nice.

truthfully?

<3

i don't see why everyone like them so much. you look at the industrial section in oink and every flippin song is nin.

The Stone Roses.Funnily enough I quite like the 'Second Coming' and obviously 'Fools Gold' is a classic but the first album largely sounds like a very average Birds rip off.
Plus another vote for the Arctic Monkeys - i dont get it!!!

i quite like the stone roses but you reminded me of one for my list

IAN BROWN. hes fucking wank!

I like his first album - very rough/demo sounding with interesting lyrics.
Having said what I said about the roses I hope i dont piss any one off.i know a lot of people think of them dearly.Ive gotten angry with a few of the names mentioned in this thread so its important to remember this thread is just about not getting a band - not thinking a band is shit.

Anything from the new wave of "indie" music like artic monkeys, razorlight, the libertines and anything really to do with Pete Doherty in general. Coldplay, snow patrol, more jank. Led Zeppelin; I mean they're alright but certainly not the gods they're made out to be.

Oh and absolute shite like MCR and all that "emo" shite.

new order - out of tune moronic turd, an advert for under acheiving lameness if ever there was one...

the beautiful south - deeply embaressing and twee to the point of vomit

the darkness.....oh dear

Pink Floyd after "Piper at the Gates of Dawn" and every poodle haired rock band ever. Except Bon Jovi.

Definately Smashing Pumpkins. Snore fest for me. Dunno why everyone loved them?

Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Why cant everyone just hear that all the songs sound the same and his voice is grinding?

yeah ok maybe 'hes fucking wank' was a bit harsh :D
he does write some good lyrics.

its the singing and horrible jogging on the spot dancing that puts me off.

nah the new arctic monkeys stuff is brilliant.
I really like em...so much so that I'm torn between them and bjork on the Friday night at Glastonbureh

Hmmm....a genius and legend in my lifetime or a band of young fellas bashing out some really good tunes that will make me grin like a daft un...

Don't you just love it when young 'rockas' start telling you how you must love 'The Who'?.

You calling me some form of c*Nt neonate? Shite then, still shite somewhere. North Korea hopefully.

Oops, just broke my own rule.

The Who are not shite, as far as I have any evidenced based hypothesis to form an opinion.

I don't, however, 'get them'.

I would concur with all of the above.

:)

Nirvana. It's the typical Lennon/2Pac/Elvis/Curtis/Edwards trend where dying/disappearing is the best thing you can do for your career. I can sort of see why people like them, but I don't get why they, and more particularly Cobain is held up as the stand out American rock of that era. Mudhoney and the Pixies seem more listenable to me.

2 of 3. I sort of get young Miss Gudmundsdottir when she's not being too floaty. She's more accessable* with some Icelandic sound effects I find.

Glacier or summat.

*This word does not exist in my head. axessarbull is as close as I will ever get.

Accessible. Not only does it look wrong, but who says "ackses-ibbel"?

Apart from that Michael bloke who used to run the Tories before wassisname.

Howard. S'im.

It goes a bit deeper than that, for me.

If you like RHCP, you're basically mentally ill.

Patti Smith.

I know she is pretty talented, and tried to get into Horses, which I certainly like and respect, but whatever thing she does to mesmerize other people completely escapes me and i cant be trapped.

The reason i think is because her voice doesnt do it for me and for the soulful kind of stuff she does i love really throaty raspy female singers like Tina Turner for example, and Patti Smith drones it a bit which leaves me slightly cold.

Also, she started as a music journalist, not a singer, so that puts her in the same category as Neil tennant (which isnt entirely a bad thing).

i dont get the clash either. I appreciate what they did for punk and music but there are so few tunes i like of thiers. I don't get why everyone jumped on board with them.

The strokes ummm just plain why. And unfortunatley there influence is still being fealt. the bastards.

That's a great example of someone who I never got too. Yes, I can appreciate her achievement and her place in 'rocks rich tapestry' sort of thing, but to actually listen to her music leaves me cold. I never really got the Ramones either, though I loved punk, but their stuff never had any meaning for me, and I'd add the Banshess and Magazine to that list from that era too. I could also add the Stranglers, but it wasn't really that I didn't get them - I just always knew that they were shit.

yeah i cant be arsed with the ramones either. i love a few songs but there are other bands that do them same job that i perfer a lot more.
