Bands that you "irrationally" hate.

yeah, most of these hatreds are just examples of being discerning and having good taste:

U2
red hot chili peppers
Oasis
Starsailor
Coldplay
Keane

they're all rubbish

List edited and corrected for you ;) :p

It's not irrational (thread topic) to dislike any of those though ...

I can't get either Sonic Youth or Nirvana myself, which to me is weirder ... sort of, was I making enough effort?

Clearly not, given how many people whose musical knowledge and tatse I respect like them, but they're just not for me.

Most Jazz and funk. some people love it and dig it for hours, most of it just bores my tits off.

I remember when I saw Isaac Hayes and I was sat there like 'this guy has done some of the best songs ever, but this hour long funk jam is one of the lamest things ever'

Yes!!

There's a lot of bands I don't get why so many people are all praise and worship and sacrifice a goat to them (TV on the Radio being the top offender these days), but at the same I don't properly hate them.

For those that I do hate (Editors, RHCP, Coldplay, Bloc Party, Killers and a few others), I also have a perfectly good reason for that.

the who......

and there's one god awful song of theirs in particular...... 'who are you, ooh oh ooh oh'

fuck right off!

Notorious b.i.g.

I hate puffy d. diddle d daddy with such a passion that i tarred biggie with the same brush merely for being asociated with him.

This was wrong of me. Biggie is all good. I do cringe everytime i hear puffy in the bckground though.

See, I don't mind U2 that much. Sure, Bono is a cockwad, but for a mainstream/stadium band they are at least moderately interesting. I mean, I don't listen to them much now, but at least they try different things rather than churn out the same thing over and over again like status quo, oasis etc.

I should like the Ramones but I don't. I'll dance to them at a party, but I never listen to them out of choice. Read one of their autobiographies which was cool, like their clothes, just inexplicably don't really like their music. They probably influenced some of my favourite bands too.

I shouldn't hate Oasis as much as I do, but I've always hated them since I first heard them and they hadn't been overplayed yet. They just seem to grate.

An important thing for this thread is bands that you feel "why don't I get it"?. It's not a U2/Coldplay/Yawn critique ;)

By that I mean (listen UP!) , when you look at your *good* taste friends, people's whom music taste you respect, and they really recommend something, and you then go a bit "nngngngn!" when they all go fawn. Or at least look at you bewildered when you go "no, I don't get it"

Another of mine: Belle and Sebastian. I sometimes feel like I'm the only one on that.

oh and pretty much all recordings of faith no more as it was nothign liek their live shows or the music they actually played but some watered down version for mass consumption... live tho they were great...
