Bands that should never have split up

Neutral Milk Hotel.

If you like the Flaming lips/Pixies then these are a defo for you!

They haven't ever said they've split, just that they don't know whether they will release any more records together as Neutral Milk Hotel. But yes, they were/are awesome (don't agree with The Pixies reference tho).

Really? It must be just me then. I can hear Frank's thrasher acoustic guitar in some of their tunes.

The wombles... split due to "musical differences". I defy anyone not to sing (or at least hum) to 'Remember you're a womble'.

The Smiths :(

The reason I said that was because I don't like The Pixies yet love Neutral Milk Hotel, not because I don't think they sound similiar. I don't know enough Pixies stuff to make a judgement call on that one.

out of those pair I prefer the Wombles I guess. A much more enigmatic vocalist.

Hmmm.
I heard a rumour recently that absolutely everyone who has curated All Tomorrow's Parties has tried to get them.

So it looks like we could be out of luck there.
On the other hand, live stuff i've heard off t'interweb wasn't all that.
In The Aeroplane..... would be hard to pull off live I think.
It's dense and all the elements are delicately balanced in the mix.
Yet it's still shambolic.

I interviewed a guy from explosions in the sky last month and he said they tried to get Neutral Milk to reform for their ATP and that others have tried but it doesn't look like it would happen.
