Bands that got better with age

Bill Callahan has got better with age - A River Ain't Too Much To Love and Sometimes I Wish We Were An Eagle are two of my top ten albums and came at least 20 years into a superb career

The Beatles are a funny one, cos there's barely a duff song on any album, so you can't really say they got better but maintained the perfect quality, albeit with a different sound. But my two faves are Abbey Road and White Album which came pretty late.

In fact, they split up before they could have waned, so thank God for Yoko Ono. They all saved their shit stuff for their solo careers

No one's heard of them but the Innocence Mission have got more magnificent with each new release.

So I finally got to see them play after waiting since 1986 and they were absolutely wonderful. And great to be in a crowd that didn't whoop at the opening chords of every song!

Annoyingly I had to leave before the last encore - apparently the band hung around till midnight to thank everyone who had come along.
