Bands named after songs

were Black Sabbath named after their own song then?
No, after a horror film I think. I saw them when they were called Earth. They looked and sounded as dull as their name.

Dr Feelgood came from an Aretha Franklin B-side.

Dali's Car... Ella Guru... Big Joan ...all (probably) named after tracks on Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart.

Cream (the sixties power trio) obviously took their name from The Wu Tang Clan's classic C.R.E.A.M.

The Rolling Stones took their name from the Muddy Waters song.

were they still all jazzy then then?

Iommi was quite into jazz apparently, and it showed in the early days. Never heard any like - tho there is a hint on the terrible live album from the early 80's (one with ozzy, actually from the early 70's)

One of my dad's mates could've killed Ozzy Osbourne after nearly pushing a stack of amps on him... it's a long story but basically:
Ozzy was arguing with the club manager (or someone)
My dad's mate saw them and thought that pushing a stack of amplifiers unto the bloke might help things out (for some reason)
Only after he decided did he realise that not only would it possibly have been lethal to have a Marshall stack fall on someone, but that it would've hit Ozzy and not the guy he was arguing with.

Crazy days.

Weren't Aqualung named after a Jethro Tull album?

Not strictly speaking relevant but I think there's a sludgecore band called Pale Horse after the band in the Watchmen... bastards I wanted that name.

meat whiplash

Ah, good one.

I've always liked to believe that The Fire Engines got their name from The 13th Floor Elevators song.

-But they probably didn't. :o

I doubt it but the Bloc Party might've been named after the late great Lisa Left Eye Lopes' track "The Block Party". Unlikely me thinks, but maybe.

Wooh! Do you not remember Meat Whiplash trying to be the JAMC mark 2 by lobbing a full bottle in the crowd in the hope of provoking a riot? Transaparent Mcgee tactics and they got booted off the tour. And you call yourself a sad indie nerd type? Pah!

Nah, don't remember that at all! :p

Cool name (-but only by association). Crap band...

Monster Magnet ...named after Frank Zappa's Return of the Son of Monster Magnet

Negativeland ...a song by Neu!

Eric's Trip ...a song by Sonic Youth

Right Said Fred ...a song by legendary funk drummer Bernard Cribbins

No! Named after the painting (probably) ...another ACR situation here, and a case of bad dialetics) - though Mcgees love for The Creation means that i'm wrong now i think about it.
Talking of Creation, weren't House of Love named after a song?

A band called These Cars Collide were named after a line in Pretty in Pink by the Psychedelic Furs.

If I formed a band I'd call it Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast after the Pink Floyd song ;)

Weren't they named after the book A Spy In the House Of Love by Anais Nin? :)

(Edit: -Damn, I'm too slow today! :o )
