Bands/artists you like but are ashamed to admit to

The Smiths are the best band in the world by far...no one can touch em

That's why I said it'll be seen as heresy; they're still so very adored and respected. It's odd that I do feel a bit embarrassed about them now though, because I think The Smiths and Morrissey have never previously been as highly revered as they are today.

I went through a phase of listening to suede all the time a couple of years back. Unlike with most embarrassing bands, I can't listen to them now and see what I liked about them, they're just too shit for words :(

I like a spot of Bruce Springsteen as well, and not the arty stuff like 'nebraska', the pure stadium rock cheese

Not sure why anyone should be ashamed to admit liking something, if you like it you like it so who cares what anyone else thinks?
Just opinion innit? :)

Well no need to feel embarrassed. I've been a Smiths/Morrissey fan since the beginning and i have taken some flack for it but i truly believe they were the best band ever. It saddened me greatly when they split. I still love Morrissey but miss the songwriting Chemistry between him and Johnny Marr.

Nowt wrong with the Beatles. When did it become fashionable to hate the Beatles? Don't get it

It's not fashionable to hate the Beatles. If only it was, we might not have to put up with the constant eulogising of a bunch of simpletons.

I secretly listen to 70's soft rock by monumentally uncool bands like The Doobie Brothers, Supertramp, Mike Oldfield and The Alan Parsons Project. :(

None. If I like it, I like it :)

In a nutshell, yes. :)

I'm really struggling to name stuff I'm now genuinely embarrassed about having once liked; even my reservations about Morrissey are pretty much the same as I had back then.

Everything I've confessed to on this thread is stuff I still like!

:D

Given that 95% of my listening habits are logged, I really can't be ashamed of listening to anything, really. But according to Urban, I'd say most of it is off-bounds.

I mean, there are things I used to like that I don't like now, but I'm not ashamed - that would be daft.
I'm the same but some people are ashamed and won't admit to stuff.....to be honest i just wanted Sojourner to admit to liking "Double fantasy" and it was the reason i posted this thread :D.
Actually thats not true, it's just something i've noticed over the years...there's a hell of a lot of snobbery about music and it does amuse me :)

See that's the sort of the thing I was trying to avoid.

Is just saying "The Beatles" "eulogising"?

I like lots of other stuff as well by the way.

Even thinking about the Beatles is eulogising them. Hell, by even participating in this charade I'm undoing Mark Chapman's good work.

I love all my music! however, people laugh at me for the following especially:

savage garden, joss stone, girls aloud, blink182, areosmith, bush, 50 cent, cky, the donnas, evernesence, everclear and various other things.

I'm not ashamed of anything in my music collection (and if I like something it'll end up in my collection in one form or another), not even the copy of "Crazy Horses" by The Osmonds that I bought with my birthday money when it came out in the early 70s. :)

This thread appears every so often and then peters out when everyone realises that not admitting to liking something is just crap.
At various points in my career I have stuck up for
Keane
Hard-Fi
Steely Dan
Fleetwood Mac's Rumours
and the Britney Spears Toxic video

Who cares?

while not ashamed of liking the Beatles - or the Smiths - I will reveal here that I like about 6 or 7 Queen songs, not something I admit very often. It just sort of sneaked up on me - I mean one day I hated everything by Queen and then suddenly - 25 years later I find myself listening to "Save Me" or "You're My Best Friend" and tapping my foot. :o
