re: major toms walking banana tree

I've not this story myself.... but I'll bet on the scale of "probably not true"... up to "true banana fact"... it's down at the lower end.

perhaps an expert will come along soon and tell us for certain.

Bananas are great. I just think the design of them is pretty astonishing, and the fact that the inside tastes nice and is good for you is just amazing.

remember these?

I wish they could design bananas that don't have those annoying stringy bits down the sides. The skins comes away fine, but then you're left with stringy bits that you have to pick off with your fingernails.

NO TO STRINGY BITS.

:o

but you can smoke those bits and GET HIGH!!!!

(although I think this may well be babana-bullshit because when I tried this some years ago, it just gave me a headache)

I enjoy them any way apart from eaten on their own in the skin. That way they are just minging - it's the congealed mushiness of them - it's like semi dried baby food.

But in smoothies they are transformed.

There some mushie bananas lovers at my workplace, but some people - myself included- always get in there hoover them up as green ones before they go that way.

I suppose I'm denying them their right to fruit really :(

I can only eat bananas when they're just nicely ripe - past the green stage, before the brown stage.

Sadly that moment only lasts for exactly 4.2 minutes.

Go for a dump at the wrong moment and it's all over. :(

Not as bad as pears - they go straight from too hard to squishy and inedible, with nothing in between :(

Where's the 'it's not a fruit, it's a herb' option? :p
Wrong.

Bananas grow on a herbaceous plant (as in, herb like), commonly refereed to as a banana tree.

The banana fruit is technically a berry.

:p

bananas are all of one variety, and if a banana equivalent of dutch elm disease emerges it will kill all the bananas in the world.
I'm pretty sure I heard recently that there are at least two main varieties; but they're heavily geographically condensed / confined.

So if there was a banana crisis, it would wipe out a very large part of the stock; but not necessarily all.

Two banana diseases, however, could be fatal.

This is also the finest banana poll thread I've found.

Fine work, op.

Sliced banana, plain yoghurt, honey & cinamon. My usual breakfast. Yum.
Grilled banana on toast. Yum.
Lots you can do with bananas!
