Baliffs will force entry and pin down debtors under Labour plans

I have a canister of CS gas and some nice cutty kitchen knives. I don't care how good he is at violence. I would fuck him up bigstyle. :)

A simple container of petrol kept by the door and flung onto the face and head of any unwanted intruder, closely followed by a flicked lighter, will deter the most persistent of bailiffs.

As well as having the pleasant side-effect of meaning that they will spend the rest of their lives looking like something off "Toxic Avenger".

Giles..

Extending bailiff powers to go after those who have deliberately defrauded companies or the community is probably just about acceptable morally but chasing people who may have got in the shit through no fault of their own is absolutely fucking wrong.

If you have to have bailiffs (and sadly in some cases they are needed) they should be paid for by the state and be accountable not private companies.

I don't think we need bailiffs at all tbh, for a start issuing fines is a fundamentally unjust form of punishment. A rich bloke could shrug off a fine for some nasty crime or other whilst someone on benefits or the minimum wage could be thrown into serious hardship by it. I've known people who have refrained from paying court fines not because they were unrepentant or considered themselves above the law, but because a limited income left them with the option of either paying the fine or feeding their children. Opting for the latter in this case should not give anyone the right to invade a person's home.

Actually what really annoys me is people saying stuff like 'anyone who is in debt is feckless blah blah blah'. As if everyone in debt has got there because they're all buying plasma tellies, and not just robbing Peter to pay Paul until the end of the month pay gets in.

There was some nobby type on TV last night calling anyone with loans *feckless* and I wanted to punch him!
No one cares anymore; the media and the state have done such a hatchet job on the poor that even their working man peers end up feeling naught but contempt for people 'dumb enough' to get into debt. I've heard plenty of misanthropes ring up the phone ins on 5L tearing strips out of other callers, all for having the temerity to be in debt. Like it was a criminal lifestyle choice.

I hope to god this proposal is nothing but hot air; the consequences don't bear thinking about.

In fact I can't believe this would even be workable. Surely it would mean that all laws about self defence (if there are any) or assault would go out the window and it would become the wild bloody west. Just because a bailiff can smash your door down, surely that doesn't mean they can be immune to the ocnsequences of such provocation.

Given the amount of cockups these muppets make I'd be very worried about giving them extra powers. We had one come round to our uni flat as the previous occupants had run up some debt. The balif really was a complete mong, explained to him that the debtors he was chasing no longer lived there and he started getting all confused and angry then stuck his foot in the door in an attempt to get into the flat - at which point I smacked him in the face and slammed the door. The cheeky cunt actually called the police which was pretty ridicules given that he'd effectively been attempting to force his way into the flat. The worst part was that the police initially took the bailiff's side until two of my flat mates basically said that he'd attacked me first.

I don't usually bother with such self-delusionary practices, but this time I'm actually going to write to my MP. If nothing else it wil be interesting to see if the bastard (I've no idea who my MP is but no doubt 'bastard' is a safe assumption as to his character) manages to come up with an argument in support of this bullshit.

Tbh you find a disproportionate amount of idiots ringing 5L or talksport, it's a bit like the audio equivilant of the beebs have your say -- populated by 'I'm alright Jack' types.

In reality, there are lots and lots of people in debt. This TV dude just annoyed me particularly, as he was talking about banks and how savers were penalised by low interest rates due to borrowers. Banks wouldn't fucking exist if they didn't lend money. They make a tonne of money out of all of us.

To say nothing of the fact that ill-advised borrowing is the very cornerstone of modern economics, and without the oft-lamented credit-happy consumers of this world capitalism would have gone down the bog long ago. No bad thing in my view, but the idiots moaning about 'irresponsible' borrowing are invariably capitalist to their bones.

Yes sadly Capitalism is now the state, vested economic interests will soon have free reign to use force in collecting debts that they have helped create.

'twas ever thus. The nation state and capitalism are inextricably entwined.

Some get into debt in desperation, some to make a better life for their offspring, whilst others (like my mate) got into debt just for the sake of it - he is now 30 grand in debt for a loan he didn't even need in the first place. When he got the money he pissed it up the wall, bought 3 cars and spent a load on clothes!

This is true. Sadly they have lost ground by concentrating on issues the working class/underclass have no interest in

seconded they are more interested in defedning the bbc defedning the privilage of prpb and slagging of galloway which is why th efar right wil continue to grow and fill the void:(
