Babyshambles/ Petes new album

I aint gonna go through it word by word, song by song. Urbanites are well aware of the faith i have in Pete and his musical meaning, and i can never explain why but i just feel it, and i been listening carefully to his new album and i believe in magic of any kind when i feel it whether it be the wizard of oz or a song or whatever.

I know pete has his problems but i think that musicians that 'feel' music are very different than those that write songs, because those that feel it are different . No, Pete isn't great on guitar, and his singing is a bit weak sometimes. But put these things together with his songwriting and lyrics and the results are magic - If you're completely analytical about it, you won't get it, but to me music isn't really analytical; it's about feeling, and all the great ones capture that. Pete's got that quality.

welcome back Cheesy - I know what you mean about just feeling it, sometimes

I like the album - not sure if it has anything equal to Albion
but some of the songs come close - especially The Lost Art Of Murder.

eta:scratch that - the lost art of murder is equal if not better

fell in love with it when Pete did it on Jonathon ross

the new single you talk

i have a babyshambles ticket up for grabs for any urban that wants it for the 27th btw. its somewhere in my room among the stacks of mags. if i find it and anyone wants it pm me and i'll post it to ya, no money wanted or anything. i cant go cos i am away workin...

edit to get ya to check out new single you talk

Delivery is one of the worst songs i've heard in a long time. Rubbish lyrics set to music practically stolen from the Kinks/Spencer Davis. Odd choice for first single.

That put me off listening to the album but i'll give it a go

yeah i heard that delivery single that came with the nme and really wasn't impressed, but i'd be willing to give the rest of the album a try... it's got fairly good reviews hasn't it? the new fella in the band is meant to be quite a nice guy too if a bit crazy.

Yep it seems to have pretty good reviews across the board so i'm willing to give it a go despite my initial reaction to the single.

"You Talk"....seems horrbily average with the same bloody bridge as Delivery. Pete's been listening to the Kinks a lot methinks. "Murder" I do like.

I´m looking forward to hearing the new album but Oink has died and there´s no way I´m going to support his numerous addictions :D

the middle section of the album is brilliant, and while it opens with some strong songs, i prefer down in albion. seems to have more of the 'feeling' cp is talking about!

^ I agree with you - I like this album but love Down In Albion even though a lot of it could easily be described as terrible.

What's the song the intro and and ending of Unbilotitled is nicked from?

Unbilotitled was an acoustic song of Pete's in it's own right from the Shaken and Withdrawn sessions, LOVED that version of it, not sure about the new one. Parts of it were taken from He Will Fall, which I think is on Legs 11, or maybe just the Babyshambles Sessions.

And yeah, I love the way Down in Albion is scrappy, unfinished and feels like it was recorded in the middle of a crack session. This new one is almost too polished, although there are a couple of good ideas and tunes.

i guess i vaguely like "Lost art of murder" from that blog (tho the openign notes worryingly reminded me of david gray!). yeah it feels quite easy an effortless, i quite like that.

I also loved the scrappiness of Down in Albion, cos even in the chaos and the rubble there were flashes of brilliance.
