... if you'd never heard music before, perhaps.

what's not to like? the second album especially is a cracker. great melodies, well written lyrics, a depth of feeling that is welcome in the indie mainstream these days.

if only the babyshambles album had one tenth of the quality of the second libertines record....

Babyshables are a fucking bunch of shitlickers. Shit-cunt talentless pricks that keep blowing their fans out. On one occasion three times in a row.!! Dont think these cunts have got many fans in Norwich. Fucking rat wank. I hope their tour bus crashes head on into James Blunts tour bus and that they're all trapped burning alive in the wreckage.

no, the libertines were utter shit. doherty is a talentless, bug eyed piss insect and the sooner he departs for the great crack den in the sky the better.
NB: and get your ears syringed.

Yeah, regardless of what anybody thinks of Babyshambles' music, their reputation for blowing out gigs and letting their fans down is pretty contemptible.

What's worse though, IMO, is the way so many Doherty fans choose to put up with it, even excuse it, in some cases. It verges on masochism, FFS.

I sometimes wonder if the hysteria they appear to inspire at their gigs is actually just the audience venting their relief that the band have actually bothered to turn up.

It's true.

If he did die of an overdose though, all you'd get is millions of little wannabes dressing and acting like him, and mourning his loss like they did Kurt Cobain, all that "nobody understands me like he did" crap, and his tunes being played on the radio all day until they reach pariah status and he goes down as one of the "legends" who died young, his name would echo alongside those of many other people people far, far more talented than he will ever be.

I'd sooner he just got even more greasy and fat and an embarrassment to himself - people would go off him in due course and he'd be forgotten.

First record had two worthwhile songs on it, and they've paled.

Never even bothered playing the second one more than once.

Not for me.

What you mean like at present, with this being the way for a band to attain any success??

was talking to an NME journo on tuesday night, he was saying how everyone knows the arctic monkys are crap and will be forgotten about in a year's time, but that "now it's not about finding great bands, it's abouit findiong a NEXT LIBERTINES"

and as the libertines were fucking talentless, tuneless shit that does rather shift the goalposts regarding the music scene.

At least if the little wank stain OD'd after the pathetic initial kobain-esque furore things may change (ie at the time Kobain died itb was all grunge bands, now you don't get any grunge bands and everything is shitty, sub merton parkas sounding indie bands in the wake of posh pete's shitto bands.

blimey chico, you're getting somewhat worked up over something that actually doesn't seem worth frothing at the mouth over. i'm guessing that your favourite band isn't getting into the nme at the moment. as an aside, whose any good in your opinion at the moment?

This is Just my Opinion, and am probs gonna get beasted for it......
but ive heard most the songs off the new album live, or on mp3, and regardless of petes drug habits and lifestyle, its a fukcing good album and well worth the wait.....
And besides Pat sharpes(guitarist) drug habbit is far worse than peters, and isnt all entirely pete to blame......
ah well jus my opinion..........kickass album and band, i dont really choose to get too involved in the guys lifestyles aslong as they're still producing good music

Actually think its quite ironic to add,
pete is 26 now, and will next year be 27, think about it
jimi hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, and Brian Jones
:(
hope he doesnt end up like that.......

This is a classic case of Emperor's new clothes for impressionable kids.

The whole thing is awful - rambling, slurred, self-referential lyrics, cod-reggae, amateur production, twenty minutes too long, I could go on, but it would be just as tedious as the album itself.

You get the feeling that Doherty and "the other three" would rather be piping up in an East End squat than recording an album - and I would rather be anywhere then have to listen to that shite again.

Pat Sharpe? Drug problem? Surely not!
i'm glad i'm not the only one who thought that (isn't the guitarist called patrick walden?).Looks more like Johnny Borrell in that photo anyway. ;)

FROM BLUESTREAK: as an aside, whose any good in your opinion at the moment?

Having gone to my first gig nearly 30 years ago now, i can honestly say, i have NEVER known the music scene to be so bad. And i know for a fact, as i work in 'the industry' (sort-of) that basically, UNLESS your band is some crap generic indie style band (in london anyway) it is unprecedentedly difficult to get gigs, press and certainly distruibution. This is all because of The Libertines and the crap that has come intheir wake. It has totally revitalised the NME and music press in general as it provides exactly what their blood flow depends on - a succesion of here today gone tomorrow indie boy bands to laud as the next big thing then slag off when the next of the same comes along.

The music press is not going to give any exposure to any bands really outwith that as it then exposes the bands they champion as the garbage they truly are. OR, as the editor of a certain music mag said to me when he was pissed "mediocrity is the road to success" :( :( :(

:p sorry, my bad, no idea where i got pat sharpe from, hehehe
you're right rosa, it is Pat Walden. But yeah his crack problem is wayy worse than petes, lol
