Baby hit by train and survives (Australia)

Maybe she took off the handbrake cause the train was comming into the station and she was getting ready to board.

wtf do i know, i'm not a parent - and from the looks of it, perhaps i'm far too careless to be allowed!

I'm guessing when you park you put your brake on, even if you're on flat ground :)

Can I just ask that when/if you do have spanglegrinder(s) you always use your buggy/pram brake at dangerous places, even if the ground is flat :)

Christ I never put my brake on when I'm waiting to cross the road - there are 3 between here and the childminder's who lives less than 5 mins walk away. It'd add way too much time to my journey (plus ruins shoes :o)

ps I don't take the pushchair anymore, just remembered

The woman made a mistake - a lack of attention. But almost all parents do at some point! How many babies have ever rolled off a bed or changing table or fallen out of a pram or highchair? Women have even fallen asleep with their babies on sofas and suffocated them.

There's probably nobody blaming the poor woman more than herself, it'll haunt her for the rest of her life. I watched it once and it really shook me up. I never want to see it again.

I could stand corrected, but only one Boston station played that for all of 15 seconds (quite literally - just enough to show the buggy going over the yellow line and the woman chasing after it, and got on to more "pressing" news - more local homicides  ). I saw the clip the other night and heard nothing more, before reading this thread. It sucks because all this woman was given, was a 15 second news comment. Now the news of the day: The balloon boy hoax.

Poor woman though... if she doesn't have issues from this point on, that kid will grow up needing therapy. It seems like the mother was trying to fix her outfit (like someone suggested). My question is, if you're going to adjust yourself, at least stand in front of the buggy... or move it further away from the line - that way "in case" something happens, you're better prepared. But maybe that's just me. :(
