B&W vs Colour Photography

On your knees bitch

ooooohhh. look at you, getting all dominant just because you looked slightly foxy in those millenium mills pictures.

now dear, we all know who the real master is around here :p

nah, Alef, because he's the daddy (leaves room after another bad pun).

actually squelch with all his wartiness and oldness probably has the proper answer to this, maybe.........

Damn right I'm the daddy ;-)

Colour. Colour. Colour. My aesthetic for rich colours is just much greater than my taste for textures and tonal range. I pretty much only ever used b+w film so I could try using a darkroom and now occasionally cheat digital images to duotones to either hide distractinig colours or try to improve a mediocre shot.

Of course it depends on the subject and what you're trying to achieve, but by and large it's colour for me. Mrs Magpie is right on the money, there's way too much use of b+w to force a worthy/arty look.

Interestingly, though, a large number of the wins on the monthly photo comp thread have been b+w. Perhaps they tend to stand out since the vast majority of entries are in colour?
