Autechre

You might be right with the 'boy music' thing....kinda in the same box as Aphex Twin.

I used to listen Autechre quite a bit when I was going out with a certain boy. Bought quite a few records (vinyl) but not listened to them in years sadly.

I had the one with the sand dunes on the front in purple. That was good, but I wouldn't put it in the same class as Aphex or Mu-Ziq. It was a bit colder imo...

I never really got autechre that much - aphex wins every time - it seemed a bit too cold and awkward to me, too clever for it's own good like but I reckon they would reward attention if I had the time to do as Orang is and work through the lot -
so, what best to start with then autechre lovers?

Autechre are utterly awesome, no question. For me personally one of the all-time greats. I basically have Autechre, Aphex Twin, B12 and the like to thank for saving me from a life-time of cod-ethno-dance music like Banco de Gaia and Eat Static. As a student in the mid-90s a friend of mine came to visit me with a stack of Warp CDs including Incunabula, Amber etc. We sat and smoked weed all weekend (as per usual) listening to these albums and I was completely blown away.

Garbage EP is probably my favourite.

Amber and chaistic slide are my choices, haven't listened to them in a bit though so can't comment on any new tracks

I'm not a fan.

I remember putting on Gantz Graf on a train in London. It made me feel nauseous and unsettled with an underlying paranoia. I couldn't keep listening.

In a way, the nasuseous response that Autechre's gave me has made me respect them. I've listened to soo much music but nothing else has made me feel uneasy. And everything else that I have 'had' to turn off has generally been of poor quality, which LP7 (?) certainly isn't. So I do have a strange sort of admiration for them, but it's definitely not my thing.

Just listened to Sunn O)))thing (on youtube though couldn't play discogs). Needless to say I don't understand the 'appeal'. It doesn't even draw you in with great production liek autechre do.
And I have heard Autechre'searlier stuff, it's much more listenable, I don't mind it. I can appreciate their talent unlike your link orang utang.

ive got some of their stuff, but not listened to it loads....... in that area of music, i find it difficult to listen to whole albums, as i get bored with the ambient bits very quickly, so i tend to dip in and out listening to tracks by aphex twin, squarepusher, the tuss and ventian snares....

ill give them more of a look though :D

I think my favourite is "ep7" (still over an hour long), although I bought "Amber" today and look forward to hearing it.

i know lots of girls who dig autechre - more fellas do though for sure

I HEART autechre. Going to dig some out now to listen to I reckon.

As an aside, I love the way the word "autechre" sounds - very pleasing in the mouth as it were. Does it mean owt?

They're kind of a mixture of amazing and annoying, although Amber is an lovely album. I think I saw a bit of them live and they were just a bit unlistenable, bit like Venetian Snares can be when he does his "rawr i'm so angry and different" sets...

More of an Aphex Twin and Squarepusher fan personally. Oh, and Wisp, fuck yeahh.

You've got to be in the right frame of mind but music that is so amazing it physically upsets you is BRILLIANT. Gantz Graf is erm....I'm looking for the right word...challenges you.

Heh! :D on the other hand I've seen Venetian Snares when he DOESN'T do the "rawr..." sets and found them very dull and unengaging and disappointing.

Without wanting to make sweeping assumptions about gender an' that, I can see where opinions like "it's boys music" comes from eh?

They've said that it can pronounced however the speaker wants. I myself call them "Awe-tetch-ruh".

As for Venetian Snares, schizoid fuck-fits of unlistenable noise is what I love about him. See also Xanopticon.

Yeah, I'm sure there are girls who do. But I have a feeling mrs la rouge is more right than wrong.

This is my sinking gut feeling too - that techno and stuff like Autechere is the reserve of males by a massive ratio of least 8 to 1 . Would like to be proved wrong though..:hmm:

i gather it's by necrophagist.
the mix is a bit like a condensed version of their 8 and 12 hour long radio shows/podcasts.
