Australia v Italy

i thought italy defended brilliantly. you almost felt the Aussies could have attacked all day long and not got through. On top of that, everytime Italy broke forward they looked really dangerous. I thought Gattuso was brilliant.

For Australias part, It's a shit way to go out and they can feel a little annoyed because Grosso definately played for the penalty, but at the end of the day Neil jumped in and missed the ball, true he didn't catch the Italian but he'd obstructed him and we've all seen penalties given for less.

Well done Australia for giving one of the best teams in the world a thorough test and i've no doubt you'll be back next time.
As for Italy, an epic semi final is on the cards and i'd be suprised if they're not in the final.

It's like fucking clockwork, the usual stereotyping.

Its a fucking nightmare isn't it? I get sooooo much abuse for being an Italian fan if i watch a game in the pub - in fact, i was staggered at all the people gobbing off at me during the game against the US last week....

Why all the vitriolic abuse for Italy??

People conveniently forget we were completely robbed in the last WC and that even FIFA referred to that ref as "incompetent".

It was never a pen for me as much as it was never a red card for Materazzi which completely changed a fairly open game until then.

AWW, 'robbed' of a World Cup...

Get over yourselves - every nation on Earth who's competed in the tournament has a tale of woe, from the 'hand of God' to whatever national world cup injustice has been done.

Maybe the global perception that Italian players dive is an incorrect one - but it's quite obviously held by a large number of people and not just Brits.

fair enough, i guess you're right.

Its the widespread, utter hatred of Italy by the majority i don't understand? All the usual stereotyping i find lazy and shows a total lack of knowing anything about Italian football - even the commentators come up with the tedious "oh the Italians are going to play to stifle the opposition" etc. For fucks sake, we essenitally play with 3 up front.....

Even Guus Hiddink is at it;

"The Italians wanted to play defensively, - they don't think about attractive football, they just think about the result."

I missed it but was overjoyed at the result as I work in an office full of Aussies. They poo-poo football as 'not a real sport' until they qualified then went crazy for it and started mocking the England performance.

Yawn

When I'm not cheering England I want Italy to win.

So two fingers to all the Italy haters out there :D

Oh well ya get that,we had our chances and a dive is not the only reason we lost.To be sure this is not the last world cup we will play in,roll on Sth Africa 2010
Funnily enough, the first person i saw today was an Italian tourist.I was fuelling up my truck and him and his missus pulled up in a hire camper and asked me directions to Coral Bay.I sent the bastard in the wrong direction:)
