the ausies can only play teams in the group their in.we didn't moan when we got the mighty san moreno and we all know the outcome of that one. if fifa make any changes it should be to develope smaller nations and have lets say a minor world cup as well as the main one.we all know the system favours the bigger developed countrys but it has got to fair for everyone and you only qualify by winning your games but i just think if you top your group you should qualify. if your simoa fiji or aus

just to clear up the issue im an evertonian and proud to be english and pleased for tim cahill i just think if you finish top of the group you should qualify

You forgot American Samoa, the team that they beat 31-0 in the 2002 qualifying tournament.

Utter rot. Of course Australia should be made to prove their worth against better opposition than they face in Oceania. If they had been good enough in previous years then they would have got past Iran, Uruguay etc. As it was, they didn't.

The European groups are seeded and therefore contain a roughly equal spread of ability from France through to the Faeroes. Australia have had the same useless suspects every time and failed every time to qualify until now (they were Asian representatives in 1974). Ffs, even New Zealand managed to get there in 1982.
