ATP Festival in May to be curated by Pavement

Really Pavement choosing The Fall...colour me surprised ;)

Anyhow they're playing Brixton which I might be able to afford!!

I have a spare ticket for this now if anyone wants it.

It's in a 2 beth twin chalet with me, and if you're driving down on Friday and back on Monday from London and willing to give me a lift I'll sell it at a discount.

I am gutted I missed the one curated by My Bloody Valentine. Almost ALL my favourite bands played at that one. MBV, Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo, POBPAH, Fucked Up, De La Soul....

It pains me to even write it.

:(

aahm anyone got £173.50 to lend me? There are a limited number of four and six berth self-caterings suddenly available....

aah, I'm now suddenly being allowed to go!

Anyone still got a spare for the Fiery Furnaces one?

Okay, worked my way through the line-up and reckon my "to see" list goes a lil' something like this...

Pavement
Quasi
Endless Boogie
Enablers
Broken Social Scene
Mission of Burma
The Raincoats
Wooden Shjips
Blitzen Trapper
Boris - Performing Feedbacker
Monotonix

...don't think I've been to an ATP so obviously actually picked by the band since the Slint one!

I saw them at sneaky pete's - in cowgatr Edinburgh . The venue has no stage whitch kinda of added to the buzz. Carnage it was :) broken leg you say

they had the drumkit set up on the bar at one point.

Was similiar in London - tiny stage but they opted to set up in the crowd, moving around as the gig went on - at one point getting the crowd to hold in the air part of the drum kit, drum stall and drummer...! :D
Yeah, there's footage of just after it happened on Youtube that Pitchfork link too.

aah, I'm getting a six hundred quid payoff from this job! Now, should I be sensible or blow it all on a ticket....

Is still have a spare ticket if anyone is interested or knows anyone else who is, especially if they'd be willing to give me a lift down from London.

For anyone who hasn't been keeping track the line up so far is:

Pavement, The Fall, Faust, Quasi, Endless Boogie, Enablers, Broken Social Scene, Mission of Burma, Calexico, The Raincoats, Fiery Furnaces, The Walkmen, Omar Souleyman, Atlas Sound, Grails, The Drones, Saccharine Trust, The Clean, Wooden Shjips, Sic Alps, Pierced Arrows, Spiral Stairs, Blitzen Trapper, The 3Ds, Marble Valley, The Authorities, Wildbirds & Peacedrums, Boris - Performing Regular Set & Feedbacker Set, Camera Obscura, Mark Eitzel, Monotonix, The Dodos, Venom P. Stinger, Wax Fang, Tim Chad & Sherry, Horse Guards Parade, Still Flyin'

This wasn't, for me at least, the greatest ATP I've been to, far too many instantly forgettable bands.

I realise that ATP festivals generally has a narrower remit than many and as they mainly book US and overseas bands the costs are higher, but some cheaper UK based quirky bands or something to break it up a bit would have been welcome.

I kind of agree, but mainly because it was a fairly narrow selection on the bill. Still, it was worth it - Pavement, Enablers, Endless Boogie, The Fall, Calexico and Wax Fang (doing the Prince covers) made it for me.

Only real highlights for me were Pavement, Wax Fang covering 'Purple Rain' in it's entirety and Endless Boogie. Missed Boris doing 'Feedbacker' due to sleeping :(
Shame Monotonix had their set pulled by over-zealous security.

Most 'meh' ATP I've ever been to.

Across the piece th line up wasn't as strong as in previous years but the highlights made up for this. Pavement's set was a lot better than the one they did at the Academy on Weds.

I know...

From their Facebook page:

Hello!

So after the incident that happened when we played Melvins/Mike Patton curated "Nightmare Before Xmas" 2008 ATP, when the show ended up in the cold outside with a (really nice) rep for the festival tackled by a member of the audience, and people sitting outside to watch the end of our show, the Butlin's Country Club that hosts ATP decided the performance we put on is never to repeat at their resort. The nice folks at ATP asked us to play on stage, a thing we always immediately refused, but after refusal we thought it over and decided we're gonna make something special out of it.

Since we like ATP, and appreciate Bob from Pavement's invitation, we are gonna try something we've never done before for that show. We're not gonna play on stage, but we're gonna try something completely different.

Over the years, some people have said things about our band that were very similar to things people in the late 60's and 70's said about very early punk bands that we really like - that Monotonix the show "overshadows" the songs.

Well, the people who will see us on Saturday May 15th at 23:30 in ATP Festival in Minehead, UK will get to listen to our songs, without any distractions.
We will be seated on a tiny stage in the center of the room, you will be all around us, and we'll be playing 10 of the songs that will make our next record (8 of which we already recorded with Steve Albini in Chicago in January and April).

Oh and if any of you were running around screaming for a full half hour at 3am on Monday, I'm still looking to kill you. Maybe even using a goose.

Just be thankful you weren't in the chalet next to us - BASS until 5am every morning - our neighbours complained to the Butlins peeps :D

I think that might have been my mate's chalet, they said someone complained about them. This was held up as proof that it just wasn't the same kind of ATP as previous ones!

It was REALLY quiet at the Matt Goerning weekend... i was expect much late night naughtiness arounds the chalets but never heard a thing.
