Athletics World Championship

Congratulations to Phillips Idowu!! :)

For ages I thought he was called Phillip Sidowu. What kind of a first name is Phillips?

That was a great final :) I reckon that even at his prime, Évora would struggle to make a winning jump. Well done to both.

Me too! But well done to him - he really matured at the Olympics last year when he didn;t win so I am reallt pleased that he seems to have capitalised on that.

Disappointed that David Greene didn't get a medal in the hurdles but he did really, really well to get into the final

I can't bear the blather of Foster, Cram and the other bloke with the urgent yet serious voice. Just too much excited when there's nothing to be excited about bullshit filler, and talking up athletes who are and will always be mediocre.

Got to the point where I watch the races without sound. That'll teach them.

foster speaks his mind, which i like. he's been very critical of some of the athletes and the system the uk has had in place in the past, which is good because things have now changed and we're starting to see better results. cram, jonathan edwards and michael johnson are good as well - the commentary is much better than what you get with BBC football. maybe that says something about the mentality of an athlete compared to a footballer.

Did you see Robles in the 110m hurdles heat? What the hell? Is he injured or could he just not be bothered? Or was he weighed down by that enormous crucifix?

Well his season's best was 0.4s faster than anybody else in his heat, so maybe he felt the need to handicap himself.

Does anyone know anything about the gender issue over the womens 800m race favourite, Caster Semenya? Their final is on in about an hour.

I haven't even heard of this before, and actually thought that she looked very bloke-ish at the presentation. Not that actually means anything, but combined with the amazing times she produces as a junior, I can see why some people are suspicious.

At the same time, the discus competition was amazing to watch. The German was truly thrilled to clinch a winner at the last throw :D

Paula Radcliffe as dropped out of the marathon. Gutted but seems a sensible decision I suppose. She put in a very strong performance last week in New York but it always was going to be touch and go. She' the greatest female distance runner in my book - she doesn't need to be remmeber for having to drop out of another major marathon during the race.

I've gotta go out. Anyone know what time the mens 200M final is?

Should be one of the last races of the day - around 19:30, I'd say.

Meanwhile, Robles dropped out after three (poorly passed) hurdles. I wonder if he was fit at all to compete. Last year even he was controlling his pace he had a very gracious style, this time around he struggled on every hurdle.
