At what point, if any, should you sell out for money?

I also decided a long time ago that I wouldn't work in defence, and have kept to that. My career has pretty much in the energy sector, although I have worked for universities too. At the end of the day, we all need money for food, housing, etc.

ice-is-forming what you're describing isn't selling out. If the contract is ending, whilst it would be great to stay where you are, your employer is not giving any assurances what will happen. So you have to at least dip a toe into the job market with other employers. The fact that it's more money doesn't make it selling out.

I've never had the luxury of being able to pick a job based upon it's ethical status. But then again, I've also never had the luxury of being in a position to go for the really unethical but well-paying jobs either.

Like the vast majority of people (I guess) I've muddled around taking what scraps I can and making relatively minor choices within that.

The thing is that if I don't get a renewed contract or position by Jan, my boss of the last five years has said he'll specificaly create me a position at the new place. I could also apply for other jobs within this org and even end up having a bit of an adventure interstate or something. We have a lot of programs, contracted by various gov departments.. and they don't want to lose me. There is a position coming up within the org that's more money and I would be a shoe in.. However once again my principles may get in the way, I'm 100% dedicated to peer work and lived experience practise and I am advocating for this position to be a lived experience identified position. Peer workers need career pathways too.

I won't be out of work for long if I can't stay at this place.

Hmmmm well I think I've answered my own question...
