At Least Scotland Never Qualified

Now pay attention girls...
we are shite AND WE KNOW IT..
are we getting somewhere now?
your excuses for not winning it are already in stone,ROONEY WASNT FIT,but if he was fit then we would have won it.what balls..
all this talk of lampard of being one of the worlds best midfielders is total cack,if he is so good then why does beckham launch the long ball everytime?,where is all this great midfield play?,with argentina, thats where.

and as for us scots,we love when you lose and we will taunt you even more when you are kicked out of this cup too.

You'll never qualify for these things with that kind of attitude.

You might love England losing but it's soooooo much better being there, all the emotions involved. I know from 1994 that laughing at Germany, Argentina and Ireland losing wasn't the same.

And I'm sure you never thought you were shite before the near half a dozen times you've failed to qualify for the final stages.

ummmm do you really think there is nothing slightly ironic about saying "if you really have met some particularly stupid English fans who go on about Scotland's absence, then fair enough to think they're immature twats." on a thread that begins: "At Least Scotland Never Qualified"..... no?

Point taken, that first post was a tad inflammatory. No shortage of that from either 'side' iin the ABE '/debate' mind**. Your GSTQ thread was a tad inflammatory as well.

**And no Donna, I'm NOT 'excusing' or 'justifying' anything -- just stating FACT

And for the record I'd like to say that despite the best efforts of some Scots to provoke with relentless carping and negativity, I will still probably support Scotland (except against England) in future contests should Scotland qualify. The same true of Ireland (even more so) and Wales.

Now I'm directly playing the openly cheap** 'well I'm able to support them' card I admit, but make sure you don't mistake that for my urging ABE types to reciprocate. After all I wouldn't dream of lecturing people from other copuntries on how to conduct themselves ;)

**And fairly pointless as well, as London Calling said before :o

But criticising negative ABEism is fair enough, because it's a shitty, negative, pointless attritude as Harold points aout above.

I also want to say that I'm perfectly capable of responding to fans of Scotland, or of other nations, as I find them, I'm not condemning all Scottish fans (or any more than a shouty minority) through the prism of my own dislike of negative ABEism. Just as I don't judge all England fans on the basis of disliking what the minority of twats get up to.

3. I like football
(not necessarily in order of importance :p )

so it would seem a bit strange of me not to be supporting them.

Absurd logical contradiction in your argument. If you like football there is no way you can support England. Unless by "football" you mean a mindless long ball game and comedy of errors prior to ultimate failure.

(Shit, I still can't quote!)

Thats a fair point!

I'm very unenamoured of England's 'style' of football at the moment, being a supporter of a (very) lower division club, I'm a tolerator rather than any kind of lover of long ball. Especially as, with England, so many of the players ARE capable of better.

Where to : fuck off. Short enough for you?

(Others : I'm clarifying my position because it's been suggested I'm posting unreasonably, that I expect Scots, the Welsh, etc. to support England, etc. -- neither true)

i also found your piece to be a little meandering, rambling and ultimately devoid of any real insight - i think that this was where-tos point, but doubtless the irony value of offering constructive critiscim of an over-wordy piece by using too many words was not lost on him, so he chose instead to offer a pithy one liner instead.

Spin on it! :p

I would support any UK or Ireland team in any sport [as long as Northern Ireland wasn't involved too, of course] - so I'm not apologising for supporting England, though I think the team choices suck. For a so-called United Kingdom, people on U75 seem very divided when it comes to football.

you haven't really got anything else to love about football though have you? The nearest you get to footballing success is scotsmen doing well in english football.....and England losing.
rather sad, really.

because of course, there is NEVER any violence or sectarian bigotry at an auld firm game, is there?
yeah right.
SURE.

hmmm....not sure about that. all I can go by is my own experience, but the worst examples of both violence and bigotry was at old firm games. i've been to 4 or 5 over the years, and I was shocked at the sheer hatred and venom.
mind, it also gave me my best footie anecdote.
I was with a large, bearded scotsman who was a workmate of my old mate dougie. he turns to me and says "so, sassenach. are ye a catholic or a protestant?"
me (nervously, fearing the worst) "um...neither...I'm an atheist"
LBS thinks for a couple of minutes, strokes the beard and goes "well a'right...then are ye a catholic athiest or a protestant atheist?"
<cue sound of dougie, asphyxiating on own laughter>

It was the late President of Israel who had been brought up in Ulster, (I can't now remember his name) who I first heard making that joke, except of course his punchline was a "A Catholic Jew or a Protestant Jew?"

never knew that, though of course the LBS may have known that, and was referring to that.

do you want to re-read my post in the context of the post it was replying to.

if you want to do that and contiue to move conversation onto the subject of perceived sectarianism in scottish football then i will be only to happy to discuss that with you, i just want to make sure that we are not un-necessarily running off on a tangent due to your inabilty to see the context of that reply.

http://urban75.net/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=4707500&postcount=74

It was not, as you may have thought, a dismissing of all acts of violence committed by scotsmen in the name of football, religion, monarchy, culloden and goat-worrying - it was rather a response to an englishman who was using the recent violence by a scotsman to alleviate himself to some higher moral ground

cheers
