Aston villa 2007/2008

Er, it was you who suggested we'd be challenging for the top 4 next season. :)

I don't think we will unless O'Neill brings in at least three or four top quality players in the summer. So far, his record in the transfer market has been the only question mark over his managerial skills ....

Win: Ashley Young, John Carew for Milan (I couldn't hold up an old lady with an AK-47) Baros, Nigel Reo-Coker.

Jury Out: Moustapha Salifou, Stilian Petrov (would have been Fail until a few weeks ago when he finally started to look as if he cared), Marlon Harewood, Zat Knight, Curtis Davies.

Fail: Wayne Routledge, sale of Gary Cahill, Shaun Maloney.

I think you're harsh on Wee Shaun and Curtis Davies, but your point stands. Do have to wonder if MO'N is really comfortable with big-name players.

My son has gone to see Villa with his mate today, he's a Blues fan so doesn't want Wigan to win because he doesn't think Steve Bruce should have left Birmingham and he doesn't want Villa to win cos it's Villa. The poor lad is torn. :D

What the hell went wrong with the Villa today then - my daughter went and she said they played shit.

Really disappointing.

Obviously, I didn't go to Villa Park, but I did spend €9 on booze at Paddy's bar. We lacked so much. Hard to believe we are battling for 5th place. No decisive edge and no defense to talk of.

We seemed to be relying on goals from set pieces. That never happened. In open play we looked utterly clueless

Oh well. If Everton get hammered tomorrow it all comes down to the last game. Surely we can beat West Ham by at least 2 goals???

Met some interesting people mind :)

They're probably just knackered... not as fit as the big 4 perhaps. That said, Leicester were a very fit side under O'Neill; it was what set us apart.

There's still hope, we didn't need Everton to get hammered just to lose. If Everton lose to Newcastle and we win, we're in. Unlikely maybe, but there's still a chance.

That was pretty poor on Saturday - about the worst time to hit a dip in form. Wigan did play pretty well, they set out to stifle & hit on the counter, but we should have put away one of a good 4 or 5 chances. I just think the squad just looked tired - Gabby looked flat, Youg wasn't sparkling, NRC ran all day, Petrov was... well, Petrov, and we were just second to every ball. Glad I went, though, if only to say goodbye to Mellberg (and Barry?).

What the fuck, Berger actually suggested that Barry should join liverpool, now berger wont ever play for villa again! What a dumbass.

Yeah, real gratitude, loyalty and integrity from a player who's been supported through two injury-hit seasons. Fuck off back to the Czech Republic, you ungrateful prick.

What he said.

Fucking BBC are making out that Randy and Martin's (sounds like a Country & Western duo) attempts to keep Gareth Barry at the club are "last-ditch". He's got two years to run on his contract, FFS.:mad::mad:

Indeed, but where the media are concerned any player would have to be a complete idiot to turn down a squad place at a fourth-placed team, especially when the fourth-placed manager has had the good grace to tell the media that he wants to buy him, right at the critical point of the season for the selling club.

Still, maybe O'Neill will take this as a learning opportunity and tell Beneathus to go and fuck himself next time he calls, engaging that whining hypocrite in any kind of debate is usually futile - as the goodison derby showed.
