Is it? I bought some jaggery last week which is supposed to be good for lung complaints. Maybe my subconscious is trying to tell me something.

My mum makes the best pancake filling with coconut and jaggery. But I'm not allowed to give out her recipes :o :D

Great stuff. Smells minging but adds something a little different to a recipe. The Australian Krishna chef Korma uses it a lot in his dishes and they're all winners.

do you know where in brixton i can get this? i know it's called hing on the indian subcontinent but no-one in the stores in brixton around electric avenue knew it. it may be known as something else?

So do all Hindus eschew garlic and onions?

I thought passion was celebrated in Hinduism...

It's all down to castes and karma. Hot earthy things carry heavier karma. The earthy castes are meant to be into that stuff, and the noble, priestly castes are meant to avoid it.

Brixton Wholefoods, Orang Utan.

Ah okay. So Hare Krishna devotees are less earthy? Less weighed down by karma?

i don't like that place, no. in fact, i'm half tempted to bus it to norbury to get some (thanks for the anonymous PM tip)
thanks for the heads up though, it's saturday tomorrow, so may have to settle for brixton

You can buy it over the counter at Baldwins. Just peg it down there, won't take long. They're on the Walworth Road. Quicker than Norbury, I should think.

I know very little about it myself other than bits and bobs of reading and literature.

Hinduism is more about being a part of a complex world, than everyone trying to do one thing/follow one code.

Right I've finally tried it, and I thought it was supposed to smell bad? WTF?? It doesn't smell of anything.

Orang Utan, I am pretty sure they sell it in AC Continental (portuguese deli) - appreciate this is probably a bit late for you though.

If you still need some, I've got a huge pot and only use a pinch every now and then... happy to give you half :)
