Ive got to admit im hooked on the Cricket at the moment, not just the Ashes, about time they challenged Australia seriously. Also Kent could be about to win their first Championship since 78. Luckily no test this weekend as it the OF match.

*stares blankly*

is that like the goalie?

how come the fat kid picked last always has to be the goalie.... i want to be Chief Hitter

im putting down cricket... im no big fan of cricket tho its been an interesting series and i love stirring up some of the people on here :D As for football in this country...well it aint a sport....the richest teams buy whoever they want and flog the poorest- where is the parity and the actuall sport in there ???? bring in salary caps like u have in us and australia and it will make it a little bit more interesting.... tho nothing beats AFL ! :D

the irish do regularly do they not?

thats not aussie rules..... international rules.... good way for our selectors to pick some irish talent for our game. Not sure if most poms understand that it isnt our best team that is sent, most a grade or premiership players will rest (or avoid costly injury out of season) and not go and play. Most of the players from last years squad were not players that came from finals footbal teams... tho ots good fun to watch none the less :)

thats neither here nor there, the statement was Nothing beats the AFL, the AFL puts forward Intl Football as well as 'regular' football teams.

no im pretty sure... being from australia and all

username: is from a song by TISM (very satirical) on how people in society bury their heads in the sand about pressing issues ie war, famine, politics, etc

Next question ?

India - an outpost of the British Empire.

Interesting perspective from Mr Chorlton there :D

Sachin Tendulkar is arguably the biggest sports star in the world so we're hardly talking about a minor pastime here.

I chose the Ashes simply because it is in full flow and the football season is only 2 weeks old. However football will soon steal the majority of my sporting attention when the cricket is over.

Cricket will never be over. When England are touring Pakistan in November I know what I'm gonna be devoting my attention to :)

I love my football team to bits but cricket is the best game in the world. I can take or leave the England football side but the cricket team is something I really care about , which is why I'm prepared to follow them all over the world.

AFAIC, I want England to win every series but even then, they're only warm ups for our next tilt at the Australians - the real Old Enemy of English sport. Losing to them hurts like hell, losing to them eight series in a row hurts even more.

If we won the Ashes back I think I'd cry.

We've got nine months of football to come, for now, there's only one sport I'm making proper time for.

I voted for Cricket for all the reasons so well put above :)

I was a schoolboy the last time we held the ashes and can barely remember it...i would love, more than anything else in sport to see England win them back.

Also..as others have noted the level of sportsmanship and camaraderie between the teams is something to behold and for football to take note of

i feel cricket - like jazz - creeping up on me.

a well timed sickie on monday saw me gripped by the end of the 3rd Test. a football match has never done that - and i've seen some of the great (the England - Germany 5-1 left me cold).

i'm even toying with queueing up at the Oval at the end of the 5th Test if it runs to five days

This one is right up there with Botham's Ashes imo.

Yes I think so, I've been sitting watching with a very warm glow expecting Beefy to come out any moment. Much better on c4 than sky, free for all to see is bloody vital.

I think you'd have got half a million people trying to do the same but all the tickets went last Autumn!

(curses himself for not getting a ticket when he saw they were on sale)

I don't see it as either / or to be honest.

On saturday I had the cricket on silent on TV whilst listening to 'gloversworld.com' providing me comentry on the mighty pool at Yeovil.
On the previous Sat I went to Bloomfield and had my 'tms' radio in my pocket.

I love cricket and football both - I've had many more chances to play and watch football but I get more tired of the nonsense involved in football.

If it came down to pool going up or the ashes, I'd have to go for the former. Sorry. It's not going to though, so c'mon England!.

Surrey sold out of tickets for the fourth day so quickly that they took the unprecedented step of putting fifth day tickets on sale in advance - and they've all gone now as well.

Sorry mate :(

See you there for Pakistan next year though?
