Arthur C Clarke RIP

The strongest indication of something thats seriously wrong is his own words about that was "most had reached puberty", which implies that possibly some hadn't.

Comments which were used in the Sunday Mirror article. Which, of course, was retracted.

Hi John, thanks for the "x" (kiss), but I'm not under 16, so you can save that for somebody else! ;)

It was a story I read a long time ago, and like a I said, long before there were more than 4 tv channels in the UK, and all these tabloid gossip mags, and paparazzi (witch hunting) that seems to be like wild fire today, etc...
The paper I originally read it from (maybe more than 20 years ago) wasn't a tabloid, and the female journalist, went to interview him for something else, and he was in a house in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by lots of young boys, that apparently working for him.
Have you ever been to asia?
I think you'll find that alot of kids, from the age of 7 upwards ride motorbikes, it's slightly worrying when you see this, but it's just a different culture, and it's a way of getting around (fast)!
It's also well known that in this part of the world there is a high rate of the so called "sex trade" - and especially young kids!
Some families are so poor, it's often known that they may sell one of their kids off to these people, as their little play things!
Why the fuck was he out there?
The strongest indication of something thats seriously wrong is his own words about that was "most had reached puberty", which implies that possibly some hadn't. If so that's wrong then, no arguments.
He was a great writer, with a great mind, and I hope his death was painless.

So you still haven't bothered to read the news-story where he was cleared as innocent, and the other news-stories where the Sunday Mirror couldn't fnd their tape...

What, so you're accusing JoHn of being a paedphile now...?

Is Sri Lanka in Asia then...?

And yes, I've been to Asia. Perhaps its my pedo eyes, but I saw some teenagers on mopeds, but none on Harleys. There were some on low powered bikes, but no-one I would say was less than 14...

But then, since I went to Asia and looked at young boys on bikes I'm pedophile...

Why the fuck was he out there?

Trying to avoid small minded idiots like you...?

But he had a child - LIVING IN HIS HOUSE!

And could often be seen in the heat with HARDLY ANY CLOTHES ON

Some of you are willing to accept an astonishly low burden of proof, and I hope to christ you are never on a jury trying me!

Me neither. To this day I still hear people referring to 'that paedo Matthew Kelly' regardless of the fact that he was completely cleared of ALL charges apart from the possesion of a small amount of percy.

its the modernday withcraft accusation.

I'd just like to confess that I'd once considered going to Sri Lanka with some mates who are also keen divers.

I have since seen the light thanks to Keniff, and realised that the only reason I could possibly have wanted to go there is down to latent paedo tendencies. I have sent a report on myself and my friends to the Sunday Mirror, so they can follow up accordingly. And then retract it.

I've been so busy at work the last few days i only just found out.......

:(:(:(

RIP Arthur C.....

seeing 2001 at the cinema is still one of the things i want to do before i'm too old and doddery !

"My god...it's full of stars"

I find it interesting that even a visionary like Clarke couldn't imagine the miniaturisation and ubiquity of computers. He's predicting "terminals for your neighbourhood computer" rather than a supercomputer in every pocket.

I've got a 1986 book of his 'Visions of the Future' that was originally published in 1964. It's a series of essays he'd done for magazines predicting away merrily. The '86 re release has him commenting on the ones that called it right and the ones that proved to be lol in hindsight (and why he had been wrong). The hovercraft replacing the car for instance, didn't pan out. (some of the essays were written for playboy lol. In the day playboy and hustler did sci fi as well)

I'll google for it later, might be hosted somewhere

I've got a book of his called July 20th, 2019. Sounds like much the same thing.

yeah but where would the reel II reel fit?

They did it well too, there are few great sci-fi writers of the 50s-80s who didn't contribute (to playboy, no idea about hustler).

Ah, would love to do that. I highly recommend a hoofing great line of ket.

Although it makes the space breathing bit really disturbing.
It is being shown across the country at the moment - it's to do with the BFI, so info on what cinemas are showing it will be in there. :)

He's predicting the internet and the fact we'll access everything via a terminal. Sure, our terminals are a little smarter, but the 'computers' he's talking about, the bank, the library are accessed in exactly the way he describes.

He predicted the early days of the internet, pc based, in that video at least, we now have continued and have the internet in our pockets on our phones.
