Not unexpected given that he was 90, but a terrible loss nonetheless.
Though I should confess my favourite story of his is Rescue Party.
Which makes it nothing more than nasty, nasty unsubstantiated tittle tattle.A Sri Lanken woman I work with tells me it's common knowledge in the area.

90? Good innings...*waits for the obligatory hate the dead posts*
No.Can the dead be slandered?
Together with Kubrik with 2001 he created a near unique moment when the popular culture of the west was ready to contemplate its broad sweep of history and its place in the universe. With men ready to walk on the moon Joe 6 pack was ready for a few months to think of how we had gone from apes to the brink of becoming children of the stars.
I bet there'll be a few tabloid hacks on planes to Sri Lanka this very minute. Can the dead be slandered?
Why not start a new thread entitled: "Arthur C Clarke: unsubstantiated slurs, dodgy accusations and 'my friend told me' nasty rumours" for this kind of stuff?I know someone, a respected academic, who lived in Sri Lanka for many years and knew the man. He also said he was a nonce.

But not a shred of actual proof. Good job he's dead because you can get into trouble publishing such unsubstantiated slurs, you know. So can this website. If it was numerous comments, several witness reports, a taped confession and the strongly held belief of honest people who knew him - then on the balance of probabilities, he was a nonce.
If it was one or two isolated comments then I would brush it off. If it was more than one or two comments, then I would ask people for more proof before believing it.

So why didn't you go to the police with this...![]()
I find it's generally healthy to refuse to swallow up Internet tittle tattle without some credible evidence to back it up, but if you've got some solid proof rather than rumour and hearsay, be sure to post it up now.Paedos U75 refuses to acknowledge cos we like the non-paedo stuff they get up to.

You're getting on a bit aren't you? Can't be that long now...Can the dead be slandered?

The Sri Lanken legal system pays lip service to child abuse, as do many families there who allow western men to do it to their children in exchange for money.

Who?Apart from Shannalee working with kids abused by him, none.
