Art You WOULD Have In Your House - If You Could Find It

350px-Man_as_machine_high_res.jpg

I've found a reprint in english, but the colours are all wrong.

I want that. I want it so much. So so much.

I know what I want but I'll get a bollocking if I post it.

It's an early photograph of a woman getting shagged by a zebra in a jungle.

no it isn't... it's Matt Colishaw's homage to Walter Klemm...which is a drawing. :p

Really?

I've only seen a small picture of it. Hmm. That makes me really happy, because I'm great at copying stuff :)
Lifesize painting of a zebra shagging a woman, here I come!

Not morbid exactly, but definitely Victorian sentimentality to the nth degree. I prefer sentimentality of a Hogarthian sort.
I must be soppy to the nth degree, then. That's my favourite painting in the National Gallery. The way she's groping with her hands, just a child really, looking totally bewildered and uncomprehending. I can stare at that painting for ages, contemplating being her usually. Sometimes I'm the executioner.

I really like Munch's self-portraits. He did them throughout his life, and they show the progression from an intense, morbid young man to a rather bitter, morbid old man, as he is here.

Virgin Mother by Damien Hirst, I won't put up a photo because it might be a bit gruesome for some people but it's the best thing he's done.

Originals of these two for me:

The_Persistence_of_Memory.jpg

The Persistence of Memory (1931)

DisintegrationofPersistence.jpg

The Disintegration of the Persistence of Memory (1954)

i've loved this klee painting for ages, but always assumed the original would be quite large, whereas in fact it's only about a foot square. the small scale changes my relationship to the painting - i still love it, but i'm not sure we have the right wallspace for it the size it is.

i love lots of rothkos - we have massive high ceilings in our living room, and could carry off a full size print, but most printshops stop at poster sizes, ime... i could get one done myself but it would be megabucks. plus, who knows whether it'd work in a different flat?

Actually, I can't live with my own art. It's a bit to vain, or something. Thankfully have plenty of artist friends to swap work with. May not be as brilliant as some of the examples posted here, but it means much more and they're real paintings/photographs/sculptures etc. Prints are good when done well, but the real thing is some much more intense.
