They played The Astoria in London Tahn last night. A fine show, so I heard. I had a date with my Beloved so we didn't go. Regretting it now; a poor decision really

Chinchilla has relocated to Australia and is making music in Melbourne.

if you want to listen to the stuff he was making beofre he left Blighty, check out his Macaca Mulatta stuff on the myspazz behemoth.

wanted to go last night but just got back from italy, glastonbury next week, newcastle this weekend - broke as a bastard :(

I don't think their new album is that good comapred to their first one, or maybe it just doesn't sound as good live to me.

It's a grower. It is deeper, more considered, less of a blast of quirky pop, more musicianship.

Any band playing new material have to let it bed down before it sounds really good live.

Give it a bit more time; I reckon the new album has plenty of substance and interest.

i just got properly into these guys. emily kane is a great tune.
love to see em live. they deserve to be bigger!
also apparently Liam Gallagher is a fan
i also just got into a band called Los Campesinos around the same time who are ace too

Yeah another thumbs up for ver brut from me - saw them at that tin pan alley free fest and they were very good. Have you heard that why lout? cover of emily kane?

Subliminal Girls have a song that is a kind of loving pastiche/homage to Art Brut. If you know any Art Brut, it sticks out a mile in their set

I'd never heard of him til I read this today:
The Stone Roses, The Stone Roses
Nominated by Eddie Argos of Art Brut

They're totally overrated. Plus they covered Scarborough Fair. I don't understand why people still play their music in nightclubs - it makes me really angry. When I'm drunk in a club I usually end up arguing with the DJ who's playing them. The Stone Roses were an awful, awful band. They were uncharismatic, their lyrics are nonsensical and their music is dreary. Also, we have them to thank for Oasis, although at least Noel Gallagher is funny and Liam is a bit of a pop star. The Roses make me think of kids older than me swaggering around with bowl haircuts and affecting Manchester accents. It makes my skin crawl. And all their fans are so smug: "Oh, you don't understand it." I do understand it! It's ridiculous that it regularly gets voted in at the top of those "greatest British album ever" polls. They spawned a new thug-boy pop culture.

So now I think he's a cunt :D

He's had a bit of a confessional here and it makes for rather entertaining reading.

The power of hindsight has made me realize that I had a variety of motivations for being a dick. Sometimes I was envious of other bands’ fame; sometimes I straight-up didn’t like someone. On one occasion, I thought I was holding a grudge on behalf of a friend and spent a night referring to the very nice lead singer of Hot Hot Heat, to his face, as “that man that wrote ‘Bandages’” due to some slight I thought he had inflicted on Art Brut’s guitar player, Jasper, years previously. It turned out he hadn’t and it was just a dream I’d had. He was incredibly nice about it all. He might even have been taking it is a compliment, and not as my pathetically trying to call him out on being a one-hit wonder. “Bandages” is a great song. I’d be OK with somebody calling me the man that wrote “Formed A Band” all night, too.

Giving Up the Fight

I have their first album. The brewery is a lot better. The Monkey IPA is good, but Spanked Monkey IPA is the dogs bollocks.

Art Brew

(sorry, was this a music thread?)
