Arsenal Match

Did you notice the way they filmed the penalty?

I was expecting the trumpet and the mad organ bit to kick in :D

Gian Maria Volontè would've scored though.

im not a fan of arsenal by any stretch of the imagination, but i was chuffed they made it through. Barca vs arsenal would be an absolute showpiece final wouldn't it?

top save from a ridiculous penalty.

anyone notice the pitch invader who wrapped the Barca shirt around thierry, only for him to dump it on the floor. nice touch, hope he stays in the premiership.

He's just turned up with some cock and bull story about bumping into a mate and chatting in the street for ages....

What a muppet!!!

Men take heed, we are not that thick

Iam now sitting on his head :D

if villareal can thoroughly outclass arenal i fear what barca are going to do to them.

2 in a row.
don't be a div.

considering campbell has barely played in months i thought he hardly put a foot wrong, and a clean sheet to boot.

And yes arsenal played badly. very badly by their standards. And yet despite being 'outclassed' by their opponents, villareal still couldn't score.
Arsenal needed a draw, they got it. i wonder when you look at the big picture who 'outclassed' who..
Or perhaps it was an even 2 legs by two good teams both up for it and Arsenal were nomore outclassed than Barca were by Benfinca last round or panithaniakos in the group stage..
teams don't always play to the best of their abilities, but good teams DO get the results they need.

Quality post !

never put a foot wrong?..
he pushed the attacker over and nearly gave away a penalty..
what game were you watching?

What are you on about Jammer - he was pure class. No nervous breakdown. Nothing broken. Geezer !

listen, put what ever coat of paint on it you like but arsenal were crap tonight and very lucky to get through, outplayed in midfield i thought,it was more a case of poor finishing than good defending..
and by the way,im glad they are through.
and campbell is a liability, another game, another day,a referee would have gave that push he put on the striker.campbell is a just a bruiser.

agreed, they were well below par and if they play like that against Barcelona they'll be in trouble. over both legs they were deserved winners though and in the final i've no doubt you'll see them show up to do the job at hand. as they did tonight,
Though i would have expected arsene wenger to send them out with a more positive gameplan i think it was as much a case of arsenal keeping villareal at bay and letting them have it in the middle as it was them being outplayed

As for campbell, he's rarely let them down and has been a consistent performer for both club and country. He was lacking a little match sharpness tonight, and the push was a maybe, but if he's picked for the final with a bit more match fitness i don't think he'll let them down.

Arsenal's passing was over the place but some of it was down to Villareal's pressing. Wasnt a pen and Jose Mari is known for going down when he makes contact with a strong gust of wind. Arsenal were fortunate not to concede with the way they were playing but Villareal didnt really have that many clear chances.

Anyone but barca to win it so Ill be supporting Milan unfortunately tomorrow.

Out of what I saw - I didn't watch all of it - Henry was dreadful! I guess we can all have an off day.

To be fair to Arsenal, on the whole they have played very well. Outplaying Real Madrid and Juventus is not small feat. Every champion is allowed a shit tie and a bit of luck during a competition. In 1999 Man U had a great CL campaign but was outplayed in the final, and as we all know unbeliavably lucky to win it.

It wasn't on terrestrial here so I didn't see the match, save very brief highlights on the news. Looked like a clear penalty, though, albeit a stupid panicky one to give away.

"Un injusto empate", said the caption on the news this morning.

Yet more words of wisdom from bonfirelight.

Job done, badly granted but The Arsenal are in the final, never thought I'd see the day!
UP THE GUNNERS!!

Well, he was jumped into, in the penalty area, by Arsenal's player.
What game where you watching

That was a blatent dive. It's an Argentinian pass time.

Which doesn't necessarily make for a penalty. Collapsing onto the ground by not moving when a player, who you obstruct, is going for the ball is considered to be a dive.
