Do you want Arsenal to win the champion's league?

Unsurprisngly I want Barca to win it - we play beautiful football, in a classy way. Plus our key players seem so determined to get it. I think the current team is about as good as it can get - maybe another centre back is all - so to emulate Cryuff's dream team would be quite something.

Shame, because against any other team i'd support Arsenal.

My like of Barca is still tinged by Ronaldinho's mouthing off last year.. no-one likes that shit. Genius perhaps, gobby little wanker as well though.

Good luck to them - although i'd rather see Barca go through and win.
That's a shame, I was rooting for Liverpool last year, you know regional loyalty and old that?

I'd like an English club (sic) to win the CL as long as its not Chelsea as my Mum is a Chelsea supporter and I'd never hear the end of that.

On current form, Arsenal deserve to be where they are in Europe having not let in a single goal in this campaign. Be nice to have English clubs dominate this competition for a while.

Barca' and Arsenal are very similar in their approch to the game. Will be a great final whichever way it goes.

That's presuming Barca win tonight, obviously.

that's funny, the last time I looked N5 and N7 seemed pretty cockney addresses for me.
OH I GETTIT!!! In the globalised age of the globalised workforce, and in the most cosmopolitant, foreign worker-friendly city in the world, anyone who wasn't born within 5 mins walk of dubaibury is JUST NOT PROPAH!!!!!
not like in the old days...
local club for local people....
jumpers for goalposts....
gawd bless yer mr mee, yer a propah toff....

I think I hate them cos whereas most of the gooners I've met have been from london, I seem to meet shit loads of Spurs fans from all over the country.
This is my understanding. I used to travel down from st albans to watch arsenal regularly.
all the spurs fans came from way further away from me; all the gooners from so much nearer

Nah, because the other teams always cheat. And Chelsea are never given a chance to play proper football, with 11 players, because the referees cheat, too. It's all so unfair...

:( :D

And they always get free kicks given against them that weren't really free kicks, and even when the ball didn't go over the line, it's still a goal to the other team and Jose is going to scream and scream and scream... :D

Not cockney postcodes.. no E in them
Technically it's all to do with the Bells

Cockneys are, in the loosest sense of the word, working-class inhabitants of London. But according to tradition, the strict definition is limited to those born within earshot (generally taken to be three miles) of the Bow bells, in other words the bells of St Mary-le-Bow, Cheapside. However, the bells were silent from the outbreak of World War II until 1961. Also, of course, as the general din in London has increased, the area in which the bells can be heard has contracted. Formerly it included the City, Bethnal Green, Stepney, Shoreditch, Whitechapel, Finsbury, and Hackney although according to the legend of Dick Whittington the bells could be heard from as far away as Highgate.

naah - all the Es are in mE instead! BOOM-BOOM!
But; Hoxton is N1; that's as cockney as it gets.
and at the time the saying was made up, you COULD here the sound of bow bells in N7, it predating the internal combusiton engine an' all that.

I'm no Arsenal fan but hugely admire Wenger - I hope they do it. Besides, the hype surrounding Barcelona gets right on my tits.

i still disagree. N1 i'll give you, it couldn't be much more in the east but once you get up to highbury, not a chance mate.

All Londoners are cockneys in my eyes

No such thing as what? :o

Prepares to have ignorance of something really obvious cruelly exposed

You can only be a Cockney if you are born within the sound of the Bow Bells.
there's no Hospital (maternity unit) within the sound anymore. :)

can you nly be born in a hospital then?

anyway, its only us londoners that are pedantic about what a true cockney is. no-one else really gives a toss, and just lump us all in with a bad lot ;) :

According to my poll 49.26% of urbanites hate Spurs!

(assuming that the Arsenal fans who have voted don't like Spurs natch)

Well yeh of course that's the only way :)

Utterly selfish reasons for wanting Barca to win, if they do we don't have to qualify for the CL next year, instead going straight in. Otherwise I couldn't give a toss

errm, what i'm saying is that - at the time the old saying was coined - 1750sx IIRC, the largest and longest-ranging sound you could hear WAS bells and/or horses, so the chances of hearing what was then one of London's largest and loudest bells was pretty loud. I rmember reading a prosperous Islingtonian of that period recording that they could hear them, and someone earlier on the thread saying they'd once been noted as having been heard on highgate mount.
are you accounting for how much LOUDER our world is? my long-dead gramps - born 1895, small herts village, once told me when I was very small - how he could hear sounds from the other end of that (flat, and then-rural, now VERY urban) county.
