Not had the heating on but have lit a few fires just for the cosyness and general snuggle factor

It's mild. It's not cold. You'll just feel cold out. Or even in anywhere not overly heated. And think of the poor planet, and especially think of the polar bears. Will no-one think of the polar bears. They can't get to their food because it's too warm and the ice is melted. So the polar bears are dying. Every day you have your heating on a lil cuddly wuddly polar bear cub snuffs it. :(

What the world needs is lockable cupboards to put around thermostats.

The other thing that irritates me is someone coming in, seeing it's 15C, so putting on the heating, which is currently set at 21C. But, since they're cold, they whack the 'stat up to 30C because they think it'll get warmer quicker if they do.

Of the people that do this, in my experience, they're about 99% girls. There IS definitely some kind of chromosomal distinction when it comes to understanding the subtleties of closed-loop control systems, feedback, hysteresis and proportional/integrative/derivative processes. Discuss.

All I ever get when I try to explain that there's no point using the 'stat as an on/off switch is blank incomprehension, morphing into withering looks, followed by resignation :D

I hear you pembrokestephen... anyone that fails to understand this problem - do not touch a thermostat :D

Because we live in a council property, and they didnt bother to inform us about setting timers, 18 months on, we just found it...

We have not been able to turn ours off lower than 5 degrees all summer, so its been on :d

We are soon to set the timer, for it though, and it will come on : 5 am - 8 am, then 3 pm - 5, and 6 - 9, we may have it on 10- 12, but that depends on what were doing for work..

but as for warm and toasty, we dont have any other heating, but only run the heating on 17 degrees, so warm and toasty, it isnt.. but its not freezing either!

I turned it on a couple of days ago... half an hour in the evening just before bedtime and then an hour and a half in the morning when I'm due to get up just to take the chill off the house

The house stays at room temperature all day now as I got loft insulation this summer Hallelujah....
I only turned mine on for 2 mornings last week

Heat on first time tonight for an hour but had economical wood open fire for a week - the wood came from building works and cost only my labour to saw it up and the ashes go into the compost bin.

Feel very virtuous .....

Indoors it's been a constant balmy 21 degrees C all day

Had an open window and a fan running at work.

My young office co-worker keeps sneaking the radiators on

I ran naked round the streets of Stockwell at 6am this morning cos it was so hot.

Bunch of namby pamby lightweights, the lot of you.

The first thing I do every morning, as long as it's not actually raining stair-rods, is fling open the back door. It stays open the whole time I'm home, unless the temperature outside drops below 8ºC. I doubt the heating will go on till at least November. I'm sitting in a t-shirt with all the windows open right now....my husband blames my Russian genes....and he's half-Polish!

Tell me about it. Stepped into the house this evening with the Small One and noticed the huge increase in temperature. I think "Phew, and I know the heating's off", she goes "Brrrr, I'm COLD", and promptly whacks the heating on

Girls!
Teenagers!
Teenage girls! x 1000

It's 21C in here, I'm in a T-shirt and I'm baking. I've just turned the heating off...30 sec later, the boiler shuts down, 30 sec after that someone calls "Did the heating just go off?"   I'm going to make a bloody recording of the boiler running and play that to them, see if anyone notices.

I don't actually pay the utility bills directly (I'm in charge of the Fun, Outings and Home Improvement Directorate), but even so, it offends my soul to see all that expensive gas being burned for want of someone putting a fucking jersey on, and putting something on their feet.

Oh god, I've started sounding like my dad *sob* :)

No heating on yet, I'm in the "put a jumper on" crowd.

However, I did start to think about putting on the portable radiator just to dry the towels, a few days ago.

That's brilliant. I want you to do it!!

:D

He he he....found a sneaky switch in a hard to reach part of the boiler that allows me to switch of the heating but not the hot water....we've always used the thermostat to switch the heating on and off as it's the only blind-friendly control there is for the heating.....unfortunately that also makes it rather too teenager friendly.....

Yes I am, last few nights it's been fuckin freezin. And now I'm ill. With a cold. And the only person I would like a cuddle off is married to Karen Elson so that's off the cards :(

LD turned on the heating briefly before heading off to work y'day morning. I took the day off as I was ill so was quite content to just snuggle into my duvet. Ahh bliss!

Going to have to put mine on soon as the bathroom isn't drying properly. :( I'm resisting though.
