Are you still turning the central heating on?

Yes. I'm cold.

Although tbf, it's on a thermostat which isn't up very high, so it only comes on when it's cold enough in here.

Mine is on a thermostat too. I tried to turn it off the other day but I couldn't work out how to do it. I spose I could just turn the temp right up or something.

Can't see the point in turning it off really though, doesn't matter what season it is if it's still going colder than the temp I've set the thermostat to- that's the point of a thermostat isn't it?

You need to turn the thermostat down to a low temp, if it's anything like mine. If I set it at 20° it will keep the heating on until the temp reaches 20°. Set it to 30° and it will keep on heating things up until it reaches that, and so on. So to turn it off without actually turning the whole thing off, set the thermostat temp to something silly like 10° and it won't come on, because your house will likely be 10° all summer long and it won't need to heat it up to reach that.

Our boiler appears to be broken. It's not igniting when you turn it on. :(

I've had to put the immersion heater back on to give us hot water, I feel a bit embarrassed about that as it appeared to have been on for the last god knows how many years until bees explained what that particular switch was for and turned it off! :o :D

Has your pilot light gone out?

Well yes. See the 2nd sentence in my post.

And then read the rest of it.

I've been wrapping myself up in a cardi with my blanky on me while watching telly at night, without turning the heating back on, and I've been fine. I've turned the main radiator in the living room on a smidge maybe 3 or 4 times this summer, that's all.

I've got the windows open at the mo.

As has been pointed out, temperature down but yes. dont know what mine's set to - 'come on when Im cold' temperature I think.

No, what's the point? Even in winter I'll just throw a few extra layers of clothes on.
Cos even with the extra layers Im cold. Especially when Im soaking wet (hazard of an outdoor hobby). So cold = heating on, regardless of the date.

I don't like the feeling of lots of clothes, I'd rather wear shorts and a tee shirt round the house and have the heating on. :o

moomoo! No! I had a friend who lived here for a while when he was out of work, I'd get home in winter and find the thermostat turned up PAST maximum. I had to open the back door to get the temperature down to comfortable. And he used to walk around in shorts and a teeshirt. (I paid the bills)

I've put a jumper on over my pjs tonight as it felt a bit on the chilly side

The point is to be warmer without putting extra clothes on, surely?

Yeh but it's a waste of money and if you're inclined that way, bad for the environment. There are instances where it's necessary but putting on the heating when it's clear that a jumper will do the job is stupid imo.

Is the temperature completely different everywhere else than here?
It's not exactly scorchio I know, but it's still warm

Admitedly I did put a sweatshirt on last night, but that is because I was sitting in a beer garden until midnight... it came off as soon as I got home.

My heating will not go on until as late as possible... at least October hopefully. :)

I'd much rather wear a jumper and be able to breath cool air, than sweating in shorts

I'm not aware of instances like that.

As I have already said, my heating comes on automatically when it is cold, due to there being a thermostat. I cannot see the point of turning it off in the summer, simply because the month is called summer. If the temp is cold enough for the heating to come on, then it's cold enough for it to come on.

It really is quite straightforward.

I rarely have to use the central heating as this flat is boiling. It's around 35 Celcius in here at the moment, I'm having to be very careful with the windows since one of my idiot cats got himself stuck in a partly open window trying to leap at a pigeon on the roof and dangled half in and half out of the window, scrabbling madly, we're 3 floors up you idiot. Not that having a window open makes a huge amount of difference unless there's a gale blowing, huge south facing windows with no shade. Oh well at least my heating bills are cheap, but I am seriously considering air conditioning at this point!
