Are you still getting take away deliveries?

Yep, we're getting one a week at the moment. So far we've had pizza a couple of times, greek souvlaki once and Malaysian three times.

Our friends are running a Malaysian food delivery service, so we order from them and have the added bonus of getting a five minute chat with our mates from the top of our driveway when they deliver, which is helping us to feel more in touch with the outside world.

Next week we're getting Chinese, although the place we like doesn't deliver, so I'll be driving over the the restaurant to pick it up.

Yes, around once a week. The Nepalese restaurant over the road is collection/delivery only and I feel I want to help them out.

My usual Chinese delivery is now unavailable so I’ve switched to another one on Uber eats which is actually nicer.

I haven’t worried too much about covid transmission. It’s all cooked food and I keep a distance from the delivery guy who’s normally wearing a helmet and leather gloves anyway.

We got a Dominos recently. Won’t be doing that again. It cost me about £50!! We’ll still get our payday Friday curry though. If I don’t have to cook once a month then it’ll be worth any risk. And quite frankly you’re more likely to pick up something from the shopping you get at the supermarket. Who knows how many people have handled that packet of biscuits?

Domino's was overpriced and a bit crap even before the pandemic. Pizza Go-Go is a better franchise if you fancy that kind of pizza.

Yes. It had never occurred to me that there was a risk at all - the delivery guy doesn't come close enough.
There is a risk. If you touch your face after touching the packaging. But all you need to do is plate up, bin packaging, wash handsThe food is cooked and going in your stomach.

As has been said, delivery people drop and stand back.

Going in a supermarket, though, you’re spending time, surrounded by things people have touched that you may touch, with people who may forget to keep a distance.

We've had about 1 a week. We wash down the containers and wash our hands after doing so. It makes me feel a little nervous but it's probably ok.

when we ordered direct from our local Indian takeaway there was a tip option but with justeat there isn't and I don't have cash to tip which I feel bad about. They should add an option. Unlike other deliveries they don't just knock and go leaving the delivery, they hand it to you presumably hoping for a tip, reasonably enough, but I don't appreciate the face to face contact especially as it's wasted as I have no cash.

The Indian takeaways seem to have gone up in price and down in size but still tasty. The fish and chips was awful from a new supplier. The lebanese which we hadn't had for many months was also rubbish.

I think with Justeat the food is delivered by the restaurant itself, rather than Deliveroo or Uber where they have riders serving a range of restaurants, so it's harder to allocate a tip to the person delivering it, as opposed to just giving the restaurant more money which may or may not go to the deliverer.

No. I buy stuff from Tesco!
Just don’t really trust restaurants hygiene practices.

Hmm... any coronavirus isn’t going to work in the same way the bacteria you might think about wrt food hygiene. First, unlike bacteria, it needs a host cell to replicate. Second it won’t leave behind spores or toxins as some bacteria will... it’s also very likely to be inactivated by heat. Doesn’t tolerate temperatures above 56c well.

So a process of plating it, rather than eating out of container, washing hands before eating is very likely to be extremely effective. Supermarket is, on balance, probably at least as risky. Possibly considerably more so.

Maybe avoid sushi though.

It depends on the outlet. Round my area the small local places tend to have their own delivery drivers. I've gotten to know some faces. On the other hand the big chains like KFC the food is delivered by folks working for Just Eat. I've had bad experiences with them, meaning that I'll never order from the big chains via Just Eat ever again.

Ordinarily we would very rarely get take-away and never delivery, living in a town centre as we do. We used to eat out a lot though instead. Obviously can't eat out now and being house bound we are getting take away food delivered. Food is pretty much the only thing to look forward to on a day to day basis now (that and booze on Friday and Saturday) so a delivery is a sort of treat along with cooking fun things ourselves.

So yeah, probably doing it once or twice a week. We're not bothered about any risk to us as we're 95% sure we've already had the covid and even if we haven't living in London we will get it at some point. Anyway, the current strategy seems to be virtually everyone is going to get it anyway...

This is why I've taken to washing tins, bottles and packets when I get them home, binning bags and exterior packaging wherever possible, and rotating stock in the cupboards so that any virus particles still hitching a ride have time to die quietly before I handle whatever they've been lurking on.

I've not got a takeaway since the lockdown started. The risk is minimal but it's one that doesn't need to be taken. Besides, I'm quite enjoying cooking atm so I may as well do that and save the money.

Doubt supermarkets more risky tbh. I can either wash or leave for a few days everything I get.

There’s always the (small) chance someone sneezed just before sealing the container. And I prefer to not worry about as much as possible!

Smug rural twat post: havent ordered any food delivery since moving out of London into my impossible-to-find-without-long-list-of-instructions-house last May and thought it would be a big missing thing but it isn’t. Also thought I’d learn to be a proper cook but that’s not happened either.

Yes, but a supermarket you’re sharing a space with other people. A lot of different people. Even if you never touch your face, there’s the risk of someone near you sneezing/coughing. Not that I want to increase your worry! :hmm: absolutely fine to be in the supermarket.

I’m aware of what a supermarket is thanks!

I have stuff delivered from the supermarket...

I can't really say that Corona has affected my decision to not eat takeaways...but being broke, fussy and having worked in catering, I just...don't. And even if I loved the food, and could ring in an order on a whim, I cannot see how it could be even remotely palatable after 20minutes of being flung around in a deliveroo box.

None of the Chinese are open round here, which is interesting. You can get a delivery of anything else. Not done so but will do next month when decorating kitchen

Most Chinese take aways seem to only accept cash as payment, so does not work with Just Eat or Deliveroo. None in our town is open, one in Guildford is and they do deliver to here, but it’s minging.

We've had one, a thai. It was delivered to our doorstep and the chap waited at the end of the drive to make sure I came out. I then dispensed everything into bowls, taking care to not actually touch the food, took the bag of foil dishes straight out to the bin, washed my hands for 20 secs and tucked in. It was lovely and if I hadn't been furloughed therefore looking at some skintness in the next few months, we'd have one every other weekend.

This is the sensiblest thing I’ve seen on here for ages.
Threads reminded me how much I do miss a curry though. From spice of India on Coldharbour Lane. Always cooked fresh, never mean with ingredients, I hope they’re doing ok.
